Title | Starr Career Development Center workshop - Internship Seminar |
Content | My friends and I went to this Internship Seminar on Thursday, October 5th for another one of these blogs. I was unaware about this until the girls told me about it. We all gathered together and went to this meeting. Internship Seminar was from 12:30-2:00PM. During this meeting, the instructor told us what an internship is, how to get one, and the benefits of interning at a certain place rather it is paid or unpaid. Internship is a position in an organization where students can learn work experience, it is often paid but there are unpaid internships as well. The instructor however told us that in an unpaid internship, you can get some type of credit to be in your record which can benefit you as well. In an internship, you do an actual real job that can benefit the company, organization, or wherever you’re working for. They are not allowed to give you work that doesn’t have to do with the company/organization.
During this meeting, I learned a lot about internship. I was unaware about getting some sort of credit for the unpaid internship part and that was really nice to know. The instructor also gave us multiple websites where we can find internships online. He also gave us little hints on which websites are good or bad. After this meeting, I went online to those websites and just looked around for internships. I don’t plan on getting an internship right now but for future references, I checked it out. In one of the websites called Linkup, they make you put in what kind of job and your zip code, and then they give you a whole list of places where you can intern and a short description about them. This meeting was actually very useful to me, the instructor told us many information about internship in general in detailed form which made me realize what a good opportunity an internship is. I plan to get an internship during my sophomore or junior year to experience and actually start to learn more about finance. |
