Carlos Rodriguez is a Psychiatric Medical Assistant and a current
entrepreneurship undergrad student at Cuny Baruch College. He
is also part of Baruch’s Men’s volleyball team who last year
won the CUNYAC Men’s Volleyball conference title. Recently he
returned from a semester-long exchange program at Copenhagen
Business school in Denmark and is now looking to travel to
France this summer to expand his language proficiency in French.
Carlos is fueled by his passion for pharmacology and
mental health services. He wishes to find a better way
to care for mental health patients by providing more accurate
psychiatric diagnoses, and reducing medication trial periods for
a more effective treatment. He plans to build on his academic
foundation in entrepreneurship and psychiatry to make his
wish come true.
Carlos’ hunger for better mental health services stems
from his curiosity about how the mind works and why does it
affect everyday decisions. He has been working closely with his employer for the last 3 years to understand how medication treatment affects the quality of life. There, he
manages care for nearly 400 patients with a diagnosis of
depression, ADHD, anxiety, and other mood disorders.
Carlos believes that eventually, he can create software
applying artificial intelligence to increase accuracy in diagnosing
patients. He also seeks to utilize gene testing information
to study which medications would be more suitable for a
diagnosed individual. Carlos hopes that with these two areas,
he can reduce misdiagnoses and decrease medication trial
periods.
Carlos is currently finishing his BBA and plans to start
nursing at NYU in Spring, 2024. You can reach him at
