To finish up our research for the topic we chose as a group, our group has decided to create a museum for our topic of drug use. We started off the entire project with the broad topic of ‘substance use,’ and through our research we were able to narrow down that we only wanted to discuss specific drug use and its effects on the people that use it. We’ve decided that our fictional cultural artifact is going to be a museum dedicated to drugs called, Narco Museum. It’s going to be located in Manhattan because there’s literally a museum for everything in the City and it will feature different visual and informative artifacts created by the group.  It’d be a lot to create all the artwork for an entire museum so most of the  exhibits will be imaginary but able to be explained by our group. We are aiming to each create at least one visual artifact so that we will have something to present to the potential stakeholders. Everything will be posted onto a blog page to keep track of our work and we will also have a powerpoint slide show, representing all the slides. Although everyone is not sure what they will be focusing their artifact on I will be working on a visual artifact that will also be interactive. To create this I will be making a powerpoint slide show which will basically be a ‘choose your own destiny’ type of interactive game. The viewer will be able to choose between a female or male character and then get a drug selection page. After choosing a drug for their character they will be able to view a story about the character and their use of the drug and from then on they will be able to choose what option the character takes. An example of this would be the viewer choosing the character of Mike and choosing opioids as their drug of choice. The story for opioids would be, ‘Mike has been taking opioids with some friends from his football team as a method of getting high with friends as well as relieving any strains he receives in his muscles from playing football. Mike’s friends soon observe that their friend is usually more high than sober and realize that Mike has been taking more opioids in his free time and is no longer doing it as a social activity with friends, but is hooked on it. This is taking a toll on Mike’s academic and athletic life, thus his friends refuse to continue to supply him with opioids. Mike who is now addicted to opioids, finds a dealer through some shady sites, who is asking for a price that Mike simply can’t afford. Mike knows he has a problem but doesn’t know what to do.  Should Mike…’. Now at the end of this the viewer would have two options, one would be a positive life choice for Mike to take and the other would be something that is not as positive and would lead to negative outcomes. For this specific scenario the viewer would have the option of Mike going to a loved one and asking for help for his addiction or stealing money from friends and family to help fund his drug addiction. If thee viewers choose the first option Mike has a chance of getting better and continuing to have a normal life as he gets older. If they choose the option of Mike stealing from friends and family, the scenario ends with Mike getting arrested and his future being undecided because the arrest would lead to him having a permanent record, losing a possible scholarship and also losing many of the friends that have now lost trust in him. These scenarios are created to just give a sense of reality in situations of people abusing drugs and to show how the wrong choice could ruin someone’s life in a second.
