Peer Review, Part II (30-45 minutes)
I’ve read through a handful of your Part 1 assignments and thought they were pretty thoughtful. Did you find the peer review helpful from last time? Or would you rather do something else? For instance, I could workshop one of your pieces and we talk about them together. Or do you want to go through a few folks’ data sets togethre like we did with the Airbnb data set?
- Explain what the data set or database is to your partner(s)
- Share a link or send attachment to their email so they can look themselves
- Share your in-progress draft for Part II of the Data Set Critical Biography
- Each group member looks through the in-progress version and brainstorms other possible ways to address question.
- Be ready to share **one** new item you contributed to your partner’s Part II Data Set by writing it in our Discord lesson plan text channel for today.
Data-Driven Argument Assignment (10-15 minutes)
Let’s go over the prompt for the next major assignment, the Data-Driven Argument. You can find it on Blackboard attached to any of the proposal, half/first draft, and second draft assignment submission links in “Submit Assignments.”
Brainstorming Activity (10-15 minutes)
How is your data set part of an investigation you want to do on your topic?
What phenomenon do you want to understand? Does it actually exist? Do you want to know what it is and how to define it? What a possible cause of something is? If something is wrong or right? What should be done about something?
What kind of writing do you want to get experience doing? More nonfiction and journalistic? More professional and technical?
Take a couple minutes and look at your data set, consider your interests, and start throwing out some ideas now in our text channel for today.
