Treasures of the Cinque Terre

I did not know this place existed until now! Cinque Terre seems like a beautiful place. There are many villages and restaurant to visit so make sure to plan out where you want to go. The beaches at the coast were bloomed a little after a milennium ago and based on the pictures, they seem perfect!

Abalone Diving, the perfect seafaring sport for the foodies.

In “In California, Diving for an elusive Delicacy”, Bonnie Tsui explains about abalone diving. If you don’t know what abalone is, it’s a type of mollusk ( kinda like a large sea snail) that’s prized for its mother-of-pearl shell, and it’s meat.

Abalone dive season runs from April to November ( with the exception of July). It’s not exactly similar to scuba diving as it only involves minimal diving gear (a diving suit, fins and snorkeling gear to be exact). You’ll need to take a one-day abalone diving lesson for the basics of it; you’ll learn how to navigate around hazardous waters, differentiate abalones with rocks, and identify those that can be legally harvested.

If you like scuba diving, and exotic food, you’ll probably want to consider diving for abalone!

Rickshaw Pullers in Japan

Kelly Wetherills’s article on “Pulling Tourists Around the Streets of Tokyo” describes the career life of a “rickshaw puller.” A rickshaw puller is equivalent to those horse carriage rides you usually see at Central Park except a rickshaw puller’s job is a lot more…..strenuous. Rickshaw pullers are usually men in their 20s and earn a wage of 15 dollars per 10 minute. If you are ever in Tokyo, make sure to visit Asakusa and experience how it feels like to be on a rickshaw!!! I can guarantee you it is a lot different than sitting on a horse carriage.
