I am an historian of modern France and the French empire. My current research employs a transnational approach to examine how everyday structures of modern French economic, social, and cultural life emerged from the interplay of global capitalism, imperialism, and republican ideology in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Chicago where I also held a postdoctoral fellowship in the Society of Fellows before joining the faculty at Baruch College-CUNY in 2013.
