Introductory post – Elaine Chen

Every year somewhere around September, I would find myself either writing or introducing about myself to a new group of people. Although I’ve been practicing writing and talking about myself ever since I started school, I still find it difficult to introduce myself to all the new faces. Perhaps, it is because I know myself too well, but at the same time I don’t know about myself. Eventually, I’ve become the most familiar stranger of myself. For example, I know that I have a sweet tooth when it comes to dessert; however, I do not know what is my favorite dessert. It gets confusing sometimes.

My childhood experiences had shaped me into an outgoing and responsible leader in my class. However, ever since I came to the United States, my personalities have changed drastically. In fact, the opposite. I turned into an introvert now rather than an extrovert. I am now more of a follower than a leader in a group. I become a bit uneasy when talking to teachers, authorities, or even students in the class. For educational purposes, teachers like to do debates and presentation. I have never liked presenting in front of many audiences because the stare from people makes me nervous.  I would constantly hide my face or avert eye contact with people.

Many of the interests or hobbies that I have had diminished with time. I liked playing instrument(flute) when I was in middle school. I liked to hangout with friends. Now I prefer staying home by myself, watching anime or just staring into space. I also quit playing video games which I would love to play 24/7 few years back then. Basically, I lost interests in many things. My doctor has always mistaken this as a symptom of depression. Not good.

One quick thing I am proud to mention about me is that I am a mother of two kids. Two cats precisely. I raised two cats and I love them so much. I try to to make their life as comfortable as possible.i was going to post a picture of animals to better represent my interest in animals, but I think seeing a photo of my cats makes me want to work harder in the future.
