how emotions can affect the heart

This article is about Dr. Sandeep Jauhar’s book where he talks about the external components of people having heart problems. This article opens up with a discovery made by scientist Karl Pearson, he noticed that many husband and wives died a year of eachother. Recent discoveries show that being sad all the time and having a lot of stress in your life can significantly influence your health. He talks about a syndrome called “broken heart syndrome” where “the death of a spouse, financial worries or some other emotional event severely weakens the heart, causing symptoms that mimic a heart attack”. This story is important to me because I had witnessed this happening and it also makes people think about how important it is to try to eliminate all the stress in your life and try to always be positive.

I think the topic of stress is an important one because being that we are college students, we go through a lot of it. It can be a reason to explain why so many students experience a rise in depression, anxiety, or altered moods under times of stress. The heart serves an important role to our well being. When it isn’t properly taken care of, that is why we have many instances of college students facing many trips to the hospital or are no longer as capable as they were at a young age.

When people close to us pass away, it is no wonder as to why schools and jobs allow us to take a time of leave. This time of leave is left to ensure that our body restores the negative toll is just took from such a loss. As doctors have stated, the effects of takotsubo cardiomyopathy, can take about a few weeks until the heart is restored to its natural state.

The inclusion of this article serves as a reminder to us that we need to find our own mechanisms to relieving stress. While we may be used to stress since we live in a city that is surrounded by it, we should be aware that is sill exists and know how to properly deal with it.

I agree with this. Our emotional well being is as important as our physical well being. It has been proven that our emotions affect us physically, such as being stressed can cause headaches, being excited brings butterflies in the stomach, being scared makes the breathing heavy, and many more such relations. Our emotions and our body are linked to each other and it is extremely important to take proper care of both of them. Hence, our emotions should be dealt with properly, and elimination of all the negative emotions should be done using techniques like meditation, positive thinking and many such existing ways. It does not only affect the state of the body for that particular moment, but in a long run as well.

It is interesting to hear the term “broken heart syndrome” and that emotional dysfunction and marital health are risk factors of heart diseases. People who feel stressed by work and in relationships have higher heart disease risks. It is necessary to get more people to pay attention to this topic and learn about the importance of stress management.
