My article is related to the recent Pittsburgh shooting but it focuses more on how the suspect bought his weapons legally. The suspect, Robert Bowers, used his legally bought Ar-15 assault rifle and his three hand guna to kill 11 people in the synagogue. Mr. Bowers did not have any criminal records and signs of mental illness which allowed him to purchase the firearms. However, it was clear that the law failed to detect his strong hatred for Jews that resulted in the shooting. In addition to the four guns used in the shooting, investigation found out that Mr. Bowers owned 6 more guns, 4 hand guns and 1 shotgun. Former president Barack Obama commented saying “we have to stop making it so easy for those who want to harm the innocent to get their hands on a gun.”
I chose this article because I had a paper about gun control in my communications class yesterday. In the paper, I mentioned how we won’t be able to resolve this issue because of public debate. This article proves that the gun control issue still hasn’t been resolved as yet another shooting occured. In addition, this issue will spark again after Obama’s comment on how easy it was to obtain such firearms.
Honestly this one incident has raised so many questions regarding gun control and laws regarding weapons that it is high time some action is taken… It is just so sad to see a community being targeted like this…
The debate over gun control really is an issue that needs to be solved immediately. The fact that many states haven’t enacted stricter gun control laws is the reason these tragedies keep occurring. The government really needs to make it harder for ordinary citizens to get their hand on these weapons otherwise we are going to experience more of these shootings.
After numerous shootings, the government still hasn’t done any significant change to the law to make it stricter for someone to get their hands on a gun. It is simply unjust and unfair how people can’t even feel safe in public, let alone their own place of worship. It is scary to think that this is just a norm in society today. Change needs to happen otherwise nothing will change and more shootings will happen. How many more shootings need to happen before the government decides to act upon it?
I personally oppose the use of guns and believe that the government should impose stricter gun control laws because of all these tragic and horrible events. Although many argued that guns can be used for self-defense, but more guns were used to commit violent crimes than self-defense. I wonder why the government has done nothing to resolve this issue.
These days, citizens can easily get guns for the purpose of self-defense. The government needs to know that they can’t just give guns to people for self-defense, they should instead seize all the guns from the people to avoid violence. Many people might take advantage of having a gun and then such cases happen. I think that the government needs to be really strict and take quick action.
I agree with the fact that we need stricter gun laws in this country. We are the only country in the world that has more guns (civilian owned) than people. There are more guns in private possession than people in the United States. This statistic shows how easy it is for a person to obtain a gun. Even if it is for self-defense why would a person need multiple firearms?
