The purpose of this article is to emphasize the impact mental health has on athletes and their performance. With the help of a doctor that specializes in this specific field, the author and Dr. Sacco explains how mental health correlates with athletes’ performance. Moreover, they list several ways to notice mental health changes in an athlete such as sleeping problems, irritability, low energy, or changes in eating. They go on to speak about how mental health should be made a top priority for athletes just like their physical health. The audience is aimed towards parents or anyone that is in close contact with an athlete. At the end of the article, Dr. Sacco provides a solution to parents in order to combat negative mental health effects. This article is relevant to the topic because it is informative and can potentially help an athlete. Something unique about the writing is that it is sort of like an interview with a doctor. Overall, the article is strong in informing the reader about mental health signs and why it is important to care about athletes’ mental health.

The purpose of this article is to share a learning experience based on a personal moment. Throughout this article, NBA player Kevin Love shares a moment when he experienced a panic attack in the locker room during a game. He explains how he didn’t believe that mental health could affect him since he was making a lot of money and playing the sport he loves. He further goes on to say how that moment affected the way he viewed the importance of mental health. The target audience are athletes and anyone in general. Although Love is an athlete, he acknowledges that “everyone is going through something.” This article is relevant to the topic because it is a professional athlete speaking out about how mental health affects them. What makes this article unique is that it is an experience that not everyone is able to go through because not everyone is a professional athlete. The article is strong in providing a learning experience to make people realize the importance of mental health.

The purpose of this article is to share why having good mental health is important for athletes. The article shares a few stories told by professional athletes that have faced mental health struggles. These athletes include Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka. The type of audience the article is written for is most likely athletes who are concerned about the impact of mental health. The article is relevant to the topic because it allows readers to understand what professional athletes had to face regarding mental struggles. It is important for people to understand that professional athletes struggle with these issues outside of competition too. Sharing athletes’ stories about them seeking help to better their wellbeing makes this article unique. The article is strong in solidifying the importance of bringing awareness to mental health struggles by using the shared stories from athletes as a foundation.

The purpose of this article is to share how Simone Biles’ withdrawal from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics brought awareness to the importance of prioritizing the mental well-being of athletes. The article speaks about how elite athletes face pressure during and outside competitions, and how it can take a huge toll on an athlete’s mental health leading to burnout and potential injuries. Gymnasts also face a variety of factors that can contribute to deteriorating mental health such as gender norms and stereotypes. The targeted audience for this article are gymnasts and other athletes. This article is relevant to the topic because it shares how one athlete’s perseverance to fight for change is all it takes to bring more awareness to an issue that isn’t spoken about quite often. The article is unique because Biles’ action brought about change and awareness. One strength the article has is that it gives an example of something that was solved as a result of Biles’ speaking out. The issue that was solved was the conviction of the team doctor of the US women’s national gymnastics team, Larry Nassar, which made him face the consequences of sexually assaulting hundreds of women.
