Gentrification is most often associated with white people and them moving into neighborhoods where the rent is much lower than they are used to. It leads to rent being driven up and current tenants to find a new home because they can no longer afford to live there. People may think that gentrification is actually beneficial for a neighborhood because it makes it more “lively” or “modern”. Others may find it offensive that people think these neighborhoods need changes like adding new chain stores/malls to make it safer or better.
An example of gentrification would be in Chinatown.
