2) I think when the author said “if part of the city goes, part of us does as well”, he meant that we get attached to places so easily when we associate them with something we love. Thus when that place disappears, the things that we used to lover disappears with it.
1) For me, San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua is the place I feel most pure. I feel closest to my roots there and it is so drastically different than NY and Turkey that it also makes me very much appreciative of those other aspects of my identity.
Chinatown in Manhattan had this sort of impact in my life reminding me of my roots. The food, people, and culture reminds me of my roots. This neighborhood is the closest place outside of my hometown.
