My teachable moment is my bowling experience. When I was younger, my parents took my brother and me to go bowling since it was a sport that they enjoyed playing. Not knowing what to expect, I curiously followed my parents, excited to try something new. What seven-year-old girl wouldn’t love pushing a ball down the dragon helper with bumper guards up? Every shot I hit, points were adding up since I literally could not miss. Due to my love for the sport, my parents put me into bowling lessons. I was eager to start bowling like a big girl; no help was needed. I didn’t grasp how challenging bowling actually was without the guidance provided. That’s when I realized that I didn’t enjoy the sport as much as I used to. I wanted to give up. However, my parents already paid for the sessions, thus, being forced to proceed with the lessons. I wanted to do everything in my ability to better my skills knowing I have to put up with the classes. As time passed, now into my teenage years, my skills developed greatly as I was able to rack up multiple strikes in a row. Regaining my love for the sport motivated me to join the girl’s varsity bowling team in high school and play competitively. My high school experience was even better than I could have imagined. I want the reader to know that anything is possible when you set your mind to it. This phrase might sound cliché, but it has worked for me as proven by my experience. Having a positive mindset is key to achieving your goals.
