The purpose of the article is to emphasize to the readers why professional athletes are overpaid. The author, Mihir Bhagat, strongly believes that athletes receive too much pay as their jobs have no economic importance or value to society. He goes into depth about how other occupations such as teachers, first responders, and the president deserve these millions of dollars over athletes. He wants to inform them how athletes can simply swim around in money is ridiculous, and it needs to stop. In addition, he believes that athletes need to prove themselves to society by being positive role models for the younger generation in order to justify their salaries. This article is relevant to the topic because it comes from a well-known sports news outlet that can bring awareness about the author’s perspective. One strength of this article is that he asks numerous questions to engage the readers in order to help them agree with his view. One weakness may be that since the author did not represent the other side of the argument, the readers may disagree with his view. In short, Mihir Bhagat’s bias is portrayed throughout the article based on his points indicating that he believes athletes are overpaid.

The purpose of this article is to provide reasoning about the debate of whether or not athletes deserve their salaries. The author, Elad De Piccioto, gives three reasons why athletes’ pay is fair and three reasons why athletes shouldn’t be paid so much. He goes into detail about athletes’ jobs and lifestyles. He also talks about the long-term damage to professional sports and income inequality. This article is relevant to my topic because it illustrates both sides of this controversial topic which can allow readers to maintain an open mind (strength). To summarize, this article demonstrates numerous facts that can support both arguments.

The purpose of this book is as simple as the title states, to give background on why professional athletes make so much money. The authors go into the history of athletes’ pay, specifically baseball players, and therefore is relevant to my topic. They provide tables and graphs to support their point. They also discuss the public’s perception of the importance of rising salaries and go into depth about the increase in ticket pricing in order to watch these athletes play. The target audience is any rational person that can understand the reasoning behind why athletes have high salaries. One strength this book chapter has is the usage of graphs and tables to clearly display the data such as average salary and baseball ticket pricing. Ultimately, this book utilizes logical reasoning to explain to the audience their point of view.

The purpose of this article is to present the debate on whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. The authors, Parker Reed and Kelsey O’Connor, each convey their thoughts on the topic. Kelsey O’Connor uses statistics to support her perspective that athletes are overpaid. She wants the readers to sympathize with the occupations that provide significance to society. On the other hand, Parker Reed emphasizes how athletes’ pay is justified. He explains how it is simply the job of a sports franchise, and the athletes’ performance determines their pay. This article is written for fans interested in sports news and its controversy. It is relevant to the topic because it is a newspaper article that displays both sides of the argument which can allow readers to create their own stand on the issue. One strength is that the authors use facts that can help the audience sympathize with their views. Overall, the authors exhibit their perspective to the readers through the various points made throughout the article.

The purpose of this scholastic is to explain both sides of whether professional athletes are overpaid. They start off by answering this question by providing background on the topic. The authors go into detail about the annual salaries of players in the NBA, NFL, and MBL. They also bring other occupations such as doctors into question and whether they deserve more pay than these athletes. Since it is a scholastic article, it is targeted toward readers of the younger generation. This article is relevant to my topic because it sheds light on both arguments. One unique feature that is shown in the article is the huge eye-catching image at the start of the article with well-known athletes. One strength is that the authors highlight important statements in big and bold statements in blue coloring. In sum, this scholastic article reveals the debate in a way readers can easily understand the point established.
