What is your research topic and why have you chosen this research topic? (Please remember to stay away from broad topics like the death penalty, abortion, social media, etc.). Consider researching something that would add value to your life or to the lives of those around you. Your response should be at least three sentences long.

For my research project, I would like to explore materialism and why retail therapy exists. I chose this topic because I noticed that many people around me resort to shopping for healing but eventually end up feeling the same way as they did prior to buying things that liked. I have also learned from other classes that companies market to their audience and convince them that their lives will get better only after buying their products so I would like to explore aspects of marketing as well.
For my research topic, I’d like to discuss how exercise can affect one’s mental health. I chose this topic because mental health has become a major concern for many people in today’s world. Furthermore, since the Pandemic, many people have been doing many things remotely, which means that you have been involved in less activity because you work from home. This had a greater negative impact on many people’s mental health because they had no activity throughout the day, which can cause a variety of mental issues.
I want to research the effects of tea/caffeine to explore its benefits and harms on students. I chose this topic because I’ve seen my peers drink coffee as part of their daily routine since middle school. I’ve always drunk black tea every morning, so I’d like to compare the results of both. Since my parents always promoted caffeine as an adult necessity, I’m also inclined to explore if reliance on caffeine is truly effective or has become a placebo; i.e. do people drink it just to drink it or because it energizes?
My research topic will be on motivation and discipline, specifically how to stay motivated or disciplined. I want to learn about this topic because there have been many activities in my life that I only completed halfway. As such, I never realize the full benefit or opportunity of whatever I do because I don’t see things through to the end. I think motivation plays a big role in this, which is why I want to research how people stay motivated or disciplined.
For my research topic I looking to research how waking up early and the first thing to do is to go to the gym or do an at-home exercise routine. The reason why I’m looking to look into this topic is because I started waking up at 4 a.m and going straight to my gym for a workout since the start of freshman year. I personally have felt many benefits from beginning this routine such as productivity, daily mood, motivation, etc; and I feel like if more people tried to attempt or adopt this routine it can add value in many aspects of their lives other than just physical benefits.
For my research topic, I’m going to look more into the benefits of listening to music The reason I chose this topic is because I know many of my peers and myself included listen to music for fun or to concentrate. For most listening to music helps concentration but what else does listening to music have to offer? Also, Is there specific genres of music that can help more than the other? I want to explore what different types of music can help with and what aspect of it achieves that.
I would like to research more about the benefits of being bilingual. I went to Chinese school for 13 years and being able to speak Mandarin on a native level is something I’m very proud of. I want to learn more about the benefits like finding jobs and going international, but also with other cognitive benefits and how it impacts our brain activity.
I plan to research the physical, cognitive, and socioemotional impact of the education system on child development. This includes starting class too early, which can cause detriments to nutrition, focus, mood, and brain development. Additionally, I will discuss how elements of the school day, such as recess, can be vital to motor development and learning. In order to accomplish this, I will compare multiple school systems in different countries.
I want to research cancel culture. As it was discussed in my class presentation, cancel culture has a lot of more detrimental effects than we think. With the already massive use of social media that is only going to increase as time goes on, it is vital to gain an understanding of cancel culture and why people are so quick to cancel influencers and creators – deserved or not.
I’m going to research on power naps. This would talk about sleeping schedule and stuff similar to that but more specifically how useful it is for and beneficial for this day and age where we are all at home with no proper sleeping schedule. Also will be discussing on what goes on during sleep and how power naps are useful when it’s only a short amount of time.
For my research topic, I would like to research the benefits of follow celebrities. In many cases, many people would think that adore a star is not a beneficial thing. But they don’t realize that there are many benefits of following stars. For me, I like Korean idols, so I will learn Korean to chase Korean stars and take idol as my role model to learn. I am going to look for a few different benefits and examples to illustrate my point, and then show how celebrities can influence their fans.
My research subject would discuss the proper method of instructing students, as well as how students study not only to pass but to truly learn from it. After reading Mary Sherry’s “In Praise F Word,” it reminded me of the value and inconsistency between grade and comprehension. The importance of giving students assessments and grades to determine their understanding is often overlooked by both educators and students. Most students, including myself, merely do the work and memorize data for a short period of time in order to pass the class, ignoring the importance of learning what they have truly taught us. I don’t believe that passing and failing students, as well as paying too much attention to grades, will help students understand the subject and learn things. As a result, I’m interested in researching the best ways to teach students not only to pass a class but also how to apply what they’ve learned in their lives.
My research topic would be on beauty standards for men, more specifically on the discussion of men and makeup. I have chosen this topic because I am currently watching two Chinese idol shows where men wear makeup not only for performances but also in daily life. These men do not bat an eye towards the concept of wearing makeup and seem to prefer having it on so their natural features can be enhanced such as having the look of perfect skin or dark eyebrows. Living in America, I have noticed that there is a certain view that men should not wear makeup, it is only for girls, it makes them look gay, or it makes them look too “feminine”. I would like to show the people around me that makeup can be for everyone and it does not have to be a full-done dramatic look. Some men might be afraid to try makeup because of the stigma that exists so I hope this can benefit someone who is feeling apprehensive.
I would like to research the purpose of school, and if it really does help you succeed in the future. I am choosing this topic because during the pandemic, school really didn’t prepare anyone for it, and I had thought to myself, what is the point of school if there are so many more ways to succeed in life that doesn’t involve school. In addition, coming from a neighborhood where school was an unpopular decision to go to in my parents generation, I can resonate with this topic in some ways.
I have decided to continue learning more about sleep and how it affects us college students. Like I had mentioned before, this is a topic that is personal to me because I have struggled with sleep for years. I want to better educate myself in order to break bad habits and hopefully help others. I now know that many other people struggle with this too and I think my research can help other people as well.
I have decided to research about exercise. I personally love to exercise and I find it as a good distraction. I want to look into the benefits for a person both mentally and physically. I also want to see how a college student could apply these into their lifestyle since most college students live a more unhealthy lifestyle due to school work.
For my topic i would like to research fast fashion. for most of us getting affordable clothing from H and M and Zara are our go to, but the waste created from discarded clothing has horrible effects on the planet. equally many of the countries who make the clothes sold by these companies would most likely suffer if they stopped producing there since these companies employ thousands who wouldn’t be employed otherwise.
For my topic, I would like to research mental health from education. Many kids experience depression and anxiety from the pressure of school. I want to narrow down exactly what causes this. Possibly educating whoever how to avoid the roots of this problem.
