In most of the stories in Genesis, we see God trying to test people’s faith. God tried to test them by making them sacrifice something and usually in return they would get a whole nation. In Job’s case, God wanted to test his faith by putting him through hardship. The story of Job teaches us a lesson about faith. Regardless of the hardships that we go through, it is important to stay true to what we believe in. For Job it is his faith to God. Job was a wealthy man who lived in a land called Uz. He was known as the man who was “blameless and upright” and who feared God, and stayed away from evil. God is very proud of Job and believed “there is none like him on earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and shuns evil…” However Adversary, or the Satan wanted to test if Job will stay faithful to God by killing his livestock, children, servants, and even taking away his health.
In life, there will always be people who tries to help you and give you advice on what you should do. There will also be people who will make assumptions about you, but it is up to you to decide what to listen to. This was shown when three of Job’s friends Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar went to visit him. They tried to offer explanations as to why misfortunate events are happening to him. They even blamed his sufferings on his sins. Even though talking to his friends, made Job question God’s actions but he did not lose his faith. He continued to believe in God, and it paid off because God spoke to him and compensated him for his loss.
Job’s story teaches us to be faithful to what we believe in. This doesn’t only apply to religion but also everything we do in life. Don’t get discouraged by hardships and obstacles that come our way because it can make us a stronger person. In the end we will get rewarded for our faith just like Job.
Great post. I agree, Job was chosen because he was indisputably faithful to God and the greatest man of faith alive on Earth. God was definitely proud of Job and believed in him and He thought his faith was real and so allowed Satan to make him suffer. Job never cursed God or blame Him for his tragedy, instead he placed his fate in the hands of God and trusted God even in the moments where he was in pain and couldn’t understand why he was going through so much tragedy.
Like you mentioned in your post, in life there will be hardships and we shouldn’t get discouraged by them; we are being tested like Job and as a result, we will only become stronger and wiser people; and just like Job, we must be humble and acknowledge God’s right as our Creator to do whatever He knows is best for us, and our faith in God and also in ourselves should remain strong and know that we’ll be able to overcome hardships and obstacles.
