Introducing Nnagbe Camara !

Hello, Everyone!

I am a transfer student from Borough of Manhattan Community College, this is my junior year. My name is Nnagbe Hadja Camara, I prefer to be called by my last name if you have challenges pronouncing my first name. I am 20 years old. I am a first generation American but I still consider myself to be what my parents are, which is Guinean. I have lived in New York City all my life Queens to be a bit more specific.

Growing up in one of the most diverse cities in the entire world has made me realized my love for different cultures. It also has an impact on what I intend to major in and hopefully it becomes a career for me. My love for different cultures has also impacted the fact that I am proficient in many languages. I speak French, English, and Malinke fluently and I speak Italian and Spanish proficiently. I intend to major in International Affairs. Growing up I gained a lot of knowledge on the limited rights and poverty in many third world nations. That is what motivated me to choose this major, so I can become a humanitarian advocate and take part in working with the best teams that are known for their great actions in helping towards many solutions in the world.

I am not much of a reader, but luckily we will be reading a few of my favorite stories in class some being Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglas and Drown. I have also read The Metamorphosis, it was very challenging for me to understand it, but hopefully I will have a better time comprehending the story this semester. As a child, my father made sure we read every weekend and write a brief summary, I never enjoyed it because it felt like a punishment. Now I look back to those days and I wish I would have realized the significance of it then. I remember you saying that we will not only be reading but learning new vocabulary to enhance our communication skills. I am excited to learn many new words; I personally believe it will help shape me to be the kind of person I’d love to be.

I look forward to an amazing semester with everyone

Best regards,

Nnagbe Camara
