Introduction

Hi, my name is Alexandra Ganopolski, but I go by Sasha. I was born in Brooklyn, New York. My cultural background is Ukrainian. Both my parents are Ukrainian, and my grandparents and great-grandparents are Ukrainian, but I think that I have some different roots in me because I am much darker than my family, so that has to come from somewhere. I speak English and Russian. Russian was my first language, and then I learned English, and now Russian died out in my family, but I am still fluent and can read and write.
I love to dance, and it’s a passion of mine. I have been dancing since I was four years old and still do it. I’ve danced a variety of styles from ballet, hip hop, modern, and jazz. My favorite form of dance has to be modern, though. I went to a performing arts middle school and high school, and my experiences there taught me so much more about dance and history and culture. Dancing in school made me realize that I love to do it as a hobby, but it’s not something that I would be able to do all the time. That’s when I realized that dance as a career was never an option for me. Also, I experienced singing when I was four. My mom entered me into a singing TV show, and I got in, and it was shown on Russian Television. I did that until I was twelve and was singing professionally and got to have recording sessions, be on the radio, perform in different countries and a lot of other exciting opportunities. It was never something that I wanted to do though, and I was really only doing it for my mom, so when I turned twelve, I quit and just did dance. I came to Baruch wanting to be a finance major, but since I have been here, I think that I want to be a marketing major. I was a marketing intern this summer, and I had the best time. I don’t know if I am set with being in marketing, but I want to experience a finance internship next year and figure out which one I like more.

Welcome!

Welcome to our course blog for English 2850: Great Works in World Literature II!

This blog will be an important adjunct to our classroom this semester.  You will be referring to the blog to access reading, locate assignments, respond to discussion questions, give feedback to your peers, post assignments and much, much more.  To that end, be sure that you have made a note of the url of this blog and have the capacity to access it easily.

Your first assignment is simple.  Create a post on the blog in which you introduce yourself to the class.  It’s up to you what you choose to share in this post, but your introduction should be approximately 350-500 words.  Together with this brief introduction, please take a minute to upload a photograph of yourself to your blogs@baruch account.  This way, your face will replace the default bearcat avatar!

Introductions should be posted by Tuesday, September 3rd.
