Introduction

Hello,

My name is Dayanna Burgos and I am currently in my junior year. I recently transferred to Baruch from St. John’s University, and I cannot be more happier with my decision. My entire life I have lived in Jackson Heights, Queens, and I absolutely love it. I am exposed to so much diversity in this neighborhood so I definitely recommend visiting. My plan for this year is to declare my major in Marketing with a minor in communications. However, aside from school I am also a ballroom dancer, which has been one of my passions ever since I was a child. By being involved in school and dance it makes me aware that I have to work hard to see the results that I want.

Introduction

Hello,

My name is Eden Hakim. I am a sophomore here at Baruch. I was born and raised on Long Island. Being from New Y0rk but not from the city I’ve never truly felt vested in the New Yorker persona until I started attending Baruch. Embarking on daily walks, train rides, and subway experiences have made my life a bit more interesting. During the day I am absorbing the city life and at night I return to the comfort of the suburbs.

On my free time I enjoy drawing, creative writing, reading romance novels, going to the gym and spending quality time with family and friends. I have a thing for weddings and love attending them, coming from a middle eastern background weddings are always super spicy and fun. I speak English and Hebrew fluently. My family is Israeli, Persian, and Moroccan so I’m always surrounded by lots of exotic food, loud music, and super warm and energetic company. I am especially interested in traveling, experiencing new cultures, people, food, and music. If you take a look at my music playlist it is filled with all different languages, I have learned to sing along to the songs but have no clue as to the meaning of the lyrics.

Over the summer I worked at a Law Firm on Wall Street and am considering the path of law school, however; I am a true artist at heart and am not willing to put my passion aside. Every bone in body screams creativity, I am a thinker and a maker. I have an art account on Instagram called ‘edendraws’. I am trying to grow my art as a business on the side and the plan is to pursue law as a safety net and for security. I’m hoping to live the best of both worlds.

All in all, I am looking forward to a bright and inspiring school year. I am eager to see what this year has in store and work at further developing myself academically and in every other aspect in life. 🙂

Moliere, Tartuffe

— Discuss the theme of appearances or masks in Tartuffe? How does the issue of appearances vs. reality connect with the central concerns of the play?

— Discuss the role of Dorine, Mariane’s lady maid. What kind of servant is she? What role does she play in the action of the drama?

— How is the institution of marriage treated in Tartuffe? What are some of the models or ideals of marriage that are raised by Moliere or his characters?

— Describe the character of Orgon. Why do you think he’s so vulnerable to Tartuffe?

— Can you think of a contemporary example of the kind of religious hypocrisy exemplified in Tartuffe?

— Describe one aspect of the play that seems very modern to you and one that seems very dated or old-fashioned.

Hi everyone, my name is Brian Park, a transfer student from New Jersey. My previous school was Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey; I had obtained a degree in Associates of Science. I chose to enroll at Baruch college because there are more opportunities to find a great job/career in New York as supposed to the opportunities in New Jersey. I am currently a junior at Baruch college, and I will be pursuing a Bachelors in Computer Information System in the Zicklin Business School. All you need to really know is that I love/enjoy exercising whether it is playing sports or lifting weights in the gym. I am just an active person that also likes to be simplistic. Overall, I am taking this Great Works of Literature II because it is a required course at Baruch College.

Introduction Assignment: Edward Sorrentino

Hello everyone, my name is Edward Sorrentino. I was born and raised in Suffolk County, New York. I am fortunate enough to have attended catholic school my entire life, so attending a public college like Baruch was definitely a change in pace. I am also great full to say that I come from a very loving family, with my house including three generations. My family is the most important influence in my life. In my opinion, family is really the only thing we have when we really think about it.

The second most important influence in my life is my place of work. Again, I am very great full to have a job at an investment banking firm. There, I am able to grow and learn off my mentors, who have taught me so much all ready. Sure, the hours are long and the work is demanding. However, I understand the concept that nothing in life comes easy, and only hard work and dedication will take you there. That being said, I plan on earning a degree in accountancy, which to me, is the backbone of the finance world.

As I said before, I come from Suffolk County, which is located on Long Island. I attended St. Anthony’s High School where I was fortunate enough to compete in sports such as football and rugby. However, due to injury, my sports career came to an end after graduation. I did indeed aspire to play at the collegian level, nonetheless injury halted my aspirations. Competing in sports such as football and rugby during my time as a high schooler taught me so much more than just knowing how to throw a ball or tackle a rugger. Since I was able to participate at those two very competitive sports, I was able to learn one simple concept: the being that nothing in life comes easy. I am great full to have learned this idea at such a young age. I aspire to use this knowledge and apply it to my future academic career. I understand that as long as I work hard and continue to work hard, good things will happen in the near future. For now, I will continue to read the great works of Feng Menglong and I am sure many others just like him.

Introduction

Hi, My name is Emily Sankis and I am a sophomore. I have lived in New York City my whole life but I have a passion for traveling so I am planning to study abroad to Barcelona next semester. I always find that when I travel, I find myself wishing to get out of my comfort zone and try to live somewhere else. I believe that NYC is the best city in the world but I can’t truly say that until I have something to compare it to.

If I could choose one word to describe myself, it would be extroverted. All of the characteristics that describe an extrovert happen to describe me very well. I am outgoing, energetic, friendly, approachable, sociable, and a real creative problem solver.I plan on going into accounting and I think it’s a great choice for myself not only because of my bubbly personality but because of my love for math. Subjects such as english or history are not exactly my forte but I can definitely say that math is right up my alley. Although as extroverted as I am I also have a type B personality who tends to be someone who is easy going, flexible, relaxed, and definitely not a perfectionist. Though a perfectionist I am not when I put my mind to something, I do it. A great example of putting my mind into my work is when I actually work.

I work in a medical office so pretty much the only thing on my mind are the patients and the doctors needs. I tend to those and think about, for the most part, what needs to be done and I do it. If I have my mind set on something,im unstoppable.I love the feeling of helping others and of feeling useful hence the job. I’ve been working in medical offices for about 3 years now so I guess its what I do best and where I feel my best for the time being.

-What kind of person is Li Jia?  Does his behavior at the end of the story come as a surprise?  Why or why not?

-How are courtesans represented in the story?  Why do you think Feng Menglong chooses to depict them this way?

-Money plays a central role in the story.  What does “Du Tenth Sinks the Jewel Box in Anger” seem to be saying about the relationship between money and love?

-Feng Menglong was interested in using literature to teach morality.  What lesson is being imparted by this text?

Hi! My name is Mannal and I’m a transfer student at Baruch. It’s currently my first semester here as I’ve transferred from Hofstra University in Long Island, NY where I commute from to school. I’m currently a junior and am a finance major although I am taking my pre requisites for dental school, I know, two very different fields. When I was younger, I always knew that I wanted to be a doctor, I wanted to help people and make a change in the healthcare field. As I transitioned into college, my science grades weren’t at its peak and the dream of becoming a doctor became a little unrealistic and difficult but, definitely NOT impossible. I’ve been working harder and have picked up my science gpa but, I also needed a back up plan in case of any change of plans, thus, finance.

As much as I enjoy the healthcare world, I also value nutrition which is a huge part of the healthcare industry. Millions of Americans are obese and there are a lot of factors that contribute to that such as cheaper fast-food alternatives, more affordable/processed food compared to grass-fed/organic byproducts, lack of exercise, etc. I was heavily obese when I was in high school. This obviously affected my self esteem and the amount of self love I had for myself. Last summer of 2018, I decided to finally make a change in my lifestyle and  better my health for a brighter and more sustainable future. I went on the Keto diet, where my body shifts into the state of ketosis and I use my own fat for fuel, thus, cutting my own body fat instead of uses sugars/carbohydrates for energy. After a year, I’ve lost roughly 60 pounds and and gained a lot of respect/love for myself. This is not only because I think I look better but, I was determined and didn’t give up on my goal, no matter how hard my days got. I impressed myself and bypassed my aspirations and for that, I will always be proud. I’ve changed my life for the better and this journey to better health is a life long journey that I certainly enjoy.

Hello, my name is Joel Guzman and I am a student at Baruch College. I  mainly grew up in Brooklyn, New York but I lived in Florida for a short period. Both of my parents are from the Dominican Republic. I take a 35 minute train ride to school and I take two different trains. I enjoy technology and I often am using some type of technology as a form of entertainment. For instance, I play a lot of video games and enjoy building computers. Buse of this, I decide that CIS (Computer Information Systems) would be a good major for me, however, I am not certain if I will stick with it.

Introduction

Hey guys,

I’m Lisander Rosario, and I’m currently starting my sophomore year at Baruch College. I’m a native New Yorker, born, raised and still living in The Bronx, and I come from a Dominican background with two immigrant parents. As for the the things that I like, I’d say I’m into fairly normal teenage things, like sports such as basketball, baseball, and soccer, anime/video games, and music. And I never really had any crazy, unique experiences to share here, so sorry about that.

Up until my first semester here, I have only been to schools in the south Bronx, so I was used to all of my classmates coming from similar backgrounds as me. When I started class here last year, I was incredibly nervous since I didn’t really know what to expect. It was a huge change for me, and I’m glad that I took that step, as it has helped me broaden my views on different people from different backgrounds and who have had vastly different experiences from, as well as make some new friends.

I am currently majoring in Marketing, however I am not 100% sure about what exactly I want to do in the future to be perfectly honest, and I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about what is it that I exactly want to do/become. English has always been one of my favorite subjects since elementary school, so I hope that I will continue to enjoy it this semester as well.
