Anne Wu’s Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Anne Wu, my pronouns are she/her, and I’m currently a sophomore at Baruch who is majoring in accounting. I was born and raised in New York. During my free time, I like to cook, bake, and hang with my friends and family doing varies activities such as going to the mall and catching a movie. Also, I really love to travel and try new things whether it be trying new food, places, or adventures. I am always willing to try anything at least once in my life. A little fun fact about me is that I have been to almost all the fifty states except Hawaii and Alaska. A text that made a lasting impression on me was a book called A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. I read this book in middle school and it really made me realized how privilege I am compared to others. The part that most resonated with me was how Nya, an 11-year-old girl, had to walks a very long distant to fetch water from the nearest lake to support her family. At the time I was reading this book, I couldn’t even imagine how exhausted and fatigued Nya must be after doing this twice a day, every day. Soon the water from the lake becomes muddy and contaminated but, Nya and her family has no other choice but to drink the unclean water.  Before reading this book, I wouldn’t ever looked at water as a scarce resource but, unfortunately in some parts of the world this is how people get their water. After reading this book, it made me realized we take the simplest items such as water for granted. I had a new outlook on life which is to take nothing for granted and be grateful for what I have.
