On Wednesday, September 22nd, we will be discussing Alexander Pope’s “Essay on Man”, which you can find in Vol. D of your anthology. The text is divided into ten sections. In addition to reading the whole work, I have assigned each of you a particular section to prepare closely before Wednesday’s class. In preparation for class, take a “deep dive” into your section, looking up any unfamiliar words and doing your best to understand what the text is saying. Be prepared to describe in your own words the main idea (or one of several possible main ideas) of your section and to share a line from the text that you think is particularly important or meaningful. This is not a formal presentation, just an opportunity to share our insights with one another and work together to make sense of a difficult text.
