Assignment #2 (Introduction) – Panagis Mikelatos

My name is Panagis Mikelatos, I recently graduated from LaGuardia Community College and I am a new student at Baruch College. My hobbies consist of producing music, playing the guitar, and watching movies when I can. My academic interests have been communications and anything writing intensive because I find it to be stress relieving and something I enjoy doing. There have been texts that have stuck around with me for years, but they always involved songs the majority of the time. A particular piece that I would say changed my perspective in life would be the song “So Far Away” by Avenged Sevenfold”. This changed my perspective in life because it talks about the ones we have lost in life, the truth on how life can rather be cold, and how they lost their best friend that was the drummer in their band. When I first heard this song I was 15 years old and I thought it was just an amazing song based on how it was played. But when I got older it seemed the song “So Far Away” was more than a well-written piece of music. The meaning behind the lyrics is one of the most truthful and connections I have ever had with a song. For example, there are lyrics that I still remember till this day and relate which are “Foolish lies of growing old, it seems we’re so invincible but the truth is so cold”. I interpret these lyrics as I’ve gotten older that we are told we are getting older and how we have to become something in life to be where we want to be, but we sometimes ignore that we can at times feel so invincible that we forget along the way that the truth in life can make us feel that we are growing old.
