Hi guys! My name is Claudia Agosto and I am a senior here at Baruch College. You guys can call me Claudia, and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Communication Studies. I am a born and raised New Yorker, however my parents are from Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. I visit family in Puerto Rico every summer (except for during the pandemic)! My academic interests include: writing, mental health, marketing, and nutrition. My hobbies are walking my dog, watching Netflix/Hulu, and spending time with my boyfriend and family. I also enjoy cooking and trying new foods.
A book/movie that made a lasting impression on me was The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I remember spontaneously watching the movie adaptation of the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower one winter night in 2013. The movie felt like an out of body experience and left me with a therapeutic sense of relief; the poignant and revelatory ending to the movie unleashed tears I had been bottling inside for so long. Never in my life had I resonated with a character as much as I did with Charlie- the introverted and observant protagonist. The movie sparked a flame of curiosity within myself to delve deeper by reading the book to explore character nuances and other themes the movie briefly touched upon; there’s only so much that can be revealed in two hours in comparison to 256 pages. As I read the book new revelations were revealed that the movie did not depict. The book uncovered a whole new side of the story itself; a much more detailed briefing in regards to the characters and their backgrounds. The character development of Charlie paralleled my own personal development. This story was no longer a fascination, but a personal truth. I was able to seek inspiration to lead a happier life and to grow stronger emotionally as a person.
