Introduction

Hi, my name is Ariel Fatir I am a Sophomore in Baruch majoring in Entrepreneurship. I plan to graduate from Baruch in the year 2025 and go on to Law School to pursue a career in estate law. I was introduced to real estate by my dad and after working with him this past summer I realized that in some way, the career I have I want it to be connected to real estate. Now as for the law part, my interest in pursuing it comes half from watching Suits on Netflix and taking law classes in both high school and college.

My background, I grew up in Jamaica Estates which is a town in Queens, meaning I have been traveling from Queens to Manhattan to get to school for the past year. I really enjoy living in Queens but my plan is to move to the city after college because I feel like all my neighbors are on their way to retirement or already there.

An interesting thing about myself was that I spent a year studying abroad before I started at Baruch College. This was the year when I really learned to become actually independent from my parents. If I didn’t do my laundry then nobody was doing my laundry, and if I didn’t make myself food when I was hungry then I would starve. Even though it was tough to be away from home for so long, it was worth it because I developed positive new habits and really gained an appreciation for what It means to live in the US.

As for my hobbies, there are multiple I enjoy but if I had to narrow it down it would be playing tennis, basketball, and backgammon with friends and family. I am really competitive so when I say I “play” it means I can’t take a loss or I am going to ask for a rematch till I win. All jokes aside I really just enjoy playing these games since they allow me to focus on just them and not anything else that could have been on my mind.

Class Introduction-Daniel Valencia

Hello everyone. I hope to get along well with all of you this semester while we are in English 2850. My name is Daniel Valencia. I am in my second year at Baruch. The major that I have decided to pursue is Finance, and my minor is Chinese. I am Colombian but was born and raised in Jackson Heights, Queens. In high school, I studied pre-med and learned that it wasn’t for me so I decided to try studying business in college.

Some of my passions and hobbies are cooking, traveling, spending time with my collection of pet reptiles, and going out with friends. As of right now, I have two part-time jobs while also being a full-time student here at Baruch. One of my jobs is being a bartender at an Event Venue called 583 Park. Over two years at this job, I slowly went from being a waiter to a bartender. My other job is as a Chef at a very high-class event venue called Forbes on Fifth, which is where the magazine Forbes hosts very small exclusive events for people like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and other important people. Even though I am in a business college, and decided to study finance, my real passion is cooking. Ever since I was 12 I had to learn how to cook because my mom had gotten a new job that had her clock in extremely early, so she didn’t have time to make me breakfast. Since I never liked cereal I had to learn how to cook by watching videos on YouTube, reading cookbooks, and a lot of trial and error. Over the years cooking has become such a big part of who I am that I am the only one who cooks at family events because they prefer my recipes more. My goal in life is to open a restaurant because the thing that makes me happy is seeing people enjoy eating good food. To this day I still don’t understand why I decided to study business instead of going to culinary school, but I know that I will reach my goal one day. I mean what other 19-year-old could say that he cooks gourmet food for some of the richest and most important people in the world? After graduating from Baruch I plan on traveling around the world for a few years so I can learn about different cultures’ food I so can incorporate it into my own style of cooking. I know that it will be extremely difficult but I know that with some perseverance I will be able to accomplish it.

Introduction-Zexi Li

Hello everyone my name is Zexi Li, you guys can call me Albert. I’m from China. I moved here when I was 10 and I’m currently living in queens. This is my second year at Baruch. I’m majoring in human resource management. However, I might change my major in the future.

During my high school years, I took many music related classes such as guitar and piano for a decent amount of time, however it’s been many years since I’ve played them. In addition I’ve also developed skills such as problem solving, teamwork skills and time management. I use these skills to work on my hobbies and separate them from my academic responsibilities.

I would also like to share my strengths and weaknesses. One of my strengths is teamwork skills which I often applied both to my academic and real life. During my high school years I was an introverted person. However I would attend outside school activities as well as clubs etc. in these events I met many people who would talk to me and help me to build up my confidence. After that I started answering questions in class and talked to people.

One weakness is that I’m terrible at reading books, for me reading is an extremely unpleasant and terrible experience. I would always get distracted while reading. However I hope that this class will turn this weakness into strength by exposing myself to this situation and adapt accordingly. Finally, I wanted to say that I’m excited to meet you guys and I wish to learn from you all.

Hi I’m Ethan – Introduction

Hi guys my name is Ethan Lee. I am currently a sophomore at Baruch College. My intended major is finance. I am from Fresh Meadow, Queens. It is a rather quiet part of Queens away from main street. I love art. I have been drawing since I was around first grade. My parents noticed this and decided to send me to art school. I attended art school for 7 years and decided to stop. It was a weekly class and I had to draw for every single class. Eventually, the art classes began to feel like a chore rather than something that I love to do. Now I still do draw but just not as often as before due to school and my part-time job.

Something else that I like to do in my free time is watching anime. I was first introduced to anime during 7th grade by one of my close friends and I became hooked instantly. At the beginning of my anime-watching phase, I would spend all night binge-watching anime. It was as if I was addicted to it. Now I have calmed down a lot.

One of my more recent hobbies that I picked up was fashion. From middle school to sophomore year in high school, I did not care about the way I dressed. It just never crossed my mind whether what I was wearing looked good or not. During quarantine, I was on youtube and found a section of my feed that was dedicated to fashion shows, and because I was so bored I started watching it. At first, all these fancy unproportional clothes looked weird to me. It was something I had never seen before. I was curious if people actually wore some of these pieces in public and did research. This research introduced me to fashion icons like Playboy Carti and ASAP Rocky. From there I fell in love with fashion and started to pay attention to the way I dressed. This also caused me to start buying a lot of clothes. Fashion has become more than just clothes to me, it has become a lifestyle.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Richard, but you can just call me Rich. This is my 2nd year attending Baruch College, and I am majoring in Psychology. Originally, I planned to major in Business Administration, but quickly realized that area wasn’t something I felt comfortable, in since I am horrendous in math. When I thought of any other major that may interest me, I gravitated towards Psychology because the study of humans has always fascinated me. I feel like that is a topic that I can use in my daily life and be interested in, rather than something that I am doing just because.

Outside of school, some of the things that interest me are music and fashion. I feel like these two things coincide with each other greatly, as they draw inspiration from each other. Many of the artists I listen to frequently shoutout some of their favorite brands in their songs, and the owners of these brands have the artists walk the runway when they release a new season of clothes. I find a interest in these two things because I feel like it is a way to express myself without ever saying a word. You can learn a lot about a person by what type of music they listen to. The same goes for clothes, as you can see how somebody felt today when they woke up from bed, and decided to wear what they wanted. The clothes you wear daily and the music you listen to are all chosen for a reason, whether a person chooses to acknowledge it or not.

Besides those two things, I also like sports and video games, as these have been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember. The sports that gravitate towards me the most are basketball, baseball, and football. The video games I play are majority sports related, with the occasional other genre of video games that peak my interest. Video games and sports are a way to unwind from your day or cure your boredom, which is why they have been interesting to me for a multitude of years.

Thank you for reading and have a great day!

Introduction to the Class

Hi everyone! My name is Ecaterina Costrovet, but most people just call me by my nickname, Kate. I am currently a junior at Baruch College and am majoring in business communications with a minor in literature. I originally came to America from Moldova as an eight-year-old and for some time lived in Brooklyn, now I currently live in Staten Island. Some hobbies of mine are reading, running, biking, and listening to music. Some of my favorite books include The Three Musketeers, Little Women, and The Hobbit. As you can see, my reading interests are generally mixed — I’ll read everything from high fantasy to nonfiction. Same thing with music, I like listening to country, rock, pop, and the list goes on. It mostly just depends on what I am in the mood for. Also, I have a younger brother and an older sister that I enjoy spending time with. We usually end up going to the movies or the mall. However, if we decide to just stay home, we have a movie night. I also have three cats as pets, their names are Sonia, Gosha, and Kissa. In addition to going to school I also work as a sale associate at a gym called Orangetheory. It’s a great job as it allowed me to learn new skills and meet people from all different walks of life. It is also what got me into adding exercise into my life more. I now have a goal to start running different races, first one preferably being a 5k. Now that the weather is getting colder, I plan to start running outside again. It is very different from running on a treadmill, and it is my personal preference. I hope that this will be a great semester and I get to know all of you a bit better!

Introduction – Richard Deleon

Hello, everyone My name is Richard Deleon, and I’m currently a sophomore here at Baruch, I am currently a CIS major with a concentration in Cyber Security. However, I might switch to CS as it just became a major here in the fall, I have yet to decide.

I currently live in The Bronx, I’m 19 years old, and I was born here in NY however moved to the Dominican Republic when I was extremely small, and stayed there up to 2nd grade, I’m fluent in both English and Spanish.

Some hobbies I have are going out with friends, listening to music, playing video games, traveling, and reading. The most recent place I traveled to was back to D.R. to see some family over the summer.

A new hobby I am trying to explore is photography, My closest friend is a photographer on the side, and I just think it’s so fascinating some of the things he captures, he has recently shown me some of his recent work, and I just think it’s amazing how you can capture a beautiful moment and almost relive it when you look at the photograph again.

Two places I really want to travel to in the upcoming years are Italy and South Korea, Both cultures are so intriguing, and I just want to know more about them and hopefully experience them firsthand in the future.

The majority of my friends would describe me as an introvert, I tend to keep to myself most of the time, and I’m not as talkative unless I know you, however, I believe I’m able to get along with anyone.

One of my favorite childhood shows is Tom and Jerry, I found it so funny and unique how in one episode Tom is the villain, however in a different episode Jerry is the one antagonizing Tom, but they always tried to portray Tom as the villain.

I don’t really know what else to say, I hope to have a great semester with all of you, and can’t wait to learn more about each other in the upcoming weeks.

Introduction – Tanvir M.

Hello!

My name is Tanvir, and my hobbies include playing sports, playing video games, going out with friends and working out at the gym, even though I’m not consistent with it. Most of my summer time was spent going to the beach and working at SYEP (Summer Youth Employment). I also had an opportunity to become a seeking tutor for pre-calc for the summer, since I scored 91% in the final, but didn’t take the offer, which I now regret, as I forgot the things I learned from my pre-calc class over the span of the summer. But if I had done tutoring right when summer started, I would have retained the information that I learned from taking the pre-calc course. For the summer I had many goals planned, like learning how to drive, learning, learning video editing, starting new businesses. But I was not able to accomplish them as I got carried away with traveling and enjoying the summer. On the plus side, I was able to complete my permit test last week and I even purchased an ebike over the summer and built another gaming computer. For the college semester ahead, I hope to find out my interests, as I’m still unsure about which major I should go for and look forward to making more friendships and meeting more professionals in Baruch. On the topic of college, I am happy that Baruch has a weight room that is free to use, unlike other colleges that charge you to use their facilities. I plan on working out during the college semester and becoming more fit. My other goals for this semester are to take part in on-campus events, join clubs, join a Baruch sports team and, lastly, to not drop any classes this semester. The last part of my goal will be hard to follow through since I am already struggling with physics and the semester has just started. The subject is difficult, but nevertheless, I will have to take measures such as self-teaching myself the subject if I cannot learn from the classes alone. That’s about all I have left in the tank. Thank you for reading!

Hi i’m Abby

Hi my name is Abigail Tsakinis but you can call me Abby. I currently live in Brooklyn and have my entire life. I am a sophomore at Baruch College, my major is Accounting. Before I became an accounting major I was actually a Journalism major for the first semester, I switched mainly because I thought I could have a more successful career in a practical job. I still love to write I find it very peaceful and therapeutic, I enjoy writing about the world and my surrounding I try to find meaning in those little aspects of life. Writing in a way has become a huge part of my life still and hopefully within my career or after I try to still pursue my passion.

I enjoy reading and music on top of writing. One of my hobbies is finding old CD’s and records and adding them to my long collection. Some of my favorite artist are The Smiths, Amy Winehouse, The Misfits, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Dean Martin, and really so much more I really can go on. Another fact about me going with the whole “vintage” theme is that I do truly enjoy Black and White movies, I obviously love the classics like “Casablanca” and “Roman Holiday” and again the list could go on.

I’m excited about this class and hope to have a great semester with everyone!

Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Jennifer Seegobin. I am a sophomore and I also attended Baruch last year as a freshman. My major is Operations Management. I would describe myself as creative, and one of my hobbies is drawing. While in high school, I took Graphic Design classes and was eventually able to become certified in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign as a result. That was one of my favorite classes to take because I was genuinely interested in it and I got to spend a good chunk of the school day working on projects. Although I decided against pursuing a major focused on art or graphic design in college, I have found that the material I learned has helped me in formatting assignments and presentations. I still enjoy creating art as a hobby and I am grateful to have that as something that calms me down.
I was born and raised in Queens, New York. I love living in New York, as it is incredibly diverse and you don’t have to travel far to be introduced to different cultures from around the world. I am Indo-Guyanese, and a large part of why I am so comfortable in Queens is because of the Guyanese community there. Just in case you aren’t familiar with Guyana, it is the only English-speaking country in South America. Both of my parents are from there and immigrated to New York in the 90s.
Most people that know me would describe me as shy and quiet. I am generally more quiet around people when I am getting to know them, but after a while I get much more comfortable and act more like I would act in my own home. Before beginning college last year, I was quite nervous because I didn’t know anyone and I was worried about making friends. Luckily, I was able to meet people through my classes. My older brother also attends Baruch, and he recently got his Bachelor’s degree. His presence definitely helped me to feel more comfortable and he was able to help me find my way around in the beginning. I am excited to see what else my future holds here at Baruch.
