Why is money such a big deal for the Samsa family? When Gregor transforms all he keeps thinking is work and the debt he owes his parents. Is money an important part of his transformation?

Why was the preface written by a white person and not a black person? Is it because if a white person wrote the preface then there would be more white readers?
