Does the narrator have the existential crisis that he portrays in Macabea? Why else would he constantly have to talk about himself and his stance rather than actually starting the story?

The Hour of the Star

I do not really get the style of writing. If the main character of the story is the northeastern girl, why would the author spends the first ten pages on himself? And also there are some long sentences without any punctuation, which makes the readers hard to “breathe.” Did he write that on purpose? Did the author mean to write in a style as if he is only talking to himself?

The Hour of the Star

Is the girl described in the story someone that Rodrigo knows or someone that he has invented for his story? He dreads this girl as if he knows, and despises, her, but he also explains that he is unsure how the story will play out. How could he possibly despise a figment of his imagination that he has yet to fully invent yet?
