How did Freud came into the conclusion that when the child enters a second sexual stage they will ponders sexual scenarios where he brings his other (who is the subject if the most intense sexual curiosity) into situations of secret infidelity and into secret love affairs?
In addition, Freud claimed that this process of growing up was far more prevalent in boys compared to girls. He dismissed it as “the imagination of girls apt to show itself much weaker.”
I find it interesting how I don’t think I can recall ever feeling the feelings Freud described and I have not had any memory loses that would be out of the norm. What other causes could make it so that someone would be an outlier to his thesis?
while i understand that the style of writing brings forth the past memories for the characters. It seems that they place to much emphasis in a literal sense towards their past in that they continually refer to it.
why is Elizabeth seen as a possession throughout the novel? everyone refers to her as “theirs”
Is Septimus really detached or has he just lost his faith in humanity after going through the violence of war and having to see the worst in humanity?
Does Septimus’ suicide signify his desire to preserve the man he once was, instead of succumbing to the reality he is unable to face?
Why does Clarissa seem like she wishes she killed herself? If she wanted to, she would have done it by now.
Why do all of the characters seem so hung up on the past? They cant seem to move past anything, I understand they recall things from the past but the emotions are still closely attached to the events.
As Brianna fled her dorm room to leave for school she became flooded with anxiety and thought about why she hasn’t unpacked, it has been three days since she came back after visiting friends, and also why she decided taking 7:25 classes was a good idea. Upon exiting the elevator she left the building and headed down 3rd avenue, passing the breakfast cart usually stationed there at this early hour. Veering right onto 96th street she had to endure the wretched upward slope which transformed her calf’s into rocks. As Brianna walked down the steps into the subway the person walking like a snail in front of her did not alleviate the fear of being late. She reached the subway platform and immediately the smell of raw sewage flooded her nostrils, and there was a mange infected rat directly below her on the tracks, she thought “wow today is off to a great start.” When the subway came she entered going to one of the end doors, she refused to enter the middle because then she may come into physical contact with more people. Someone was in her usual spot forcing her to touch the warm sweaty metal. How disgusting? All of it. The 6 train finally arrived at 23rd street after mocking moving very slow and being held in the station for no reason at all. Brianna quickly ran to class disregarding the “do not cross” signal thinking how it wouldn’t be that bad if a car hit her. After turning left on 23rd onto Lexington the school was in sight, she entered class and Sid looked at her asking “why are you so late?” and thing why she looked so disheveled, she just shrugged and tried to look for a seat in the full classroom.
Is Clarissa’s reaction to the woman having a child out of wedlock an observation of the time of the book or does it fall under her personal beliefs.
