Read chapters 1-3 in George Lakoff and Mark Johnson’s Metaphors We Live By and write a one page response noting the main point of the piece and anything you found anything particularly interesting or surprising, or that you disagree with.
For February 6:
Read Claudia Rankine’s The Condition of Black Life is One of Mourning and respond to prompt under “conversations” tab of this site.
For February 8:
Read Wendell Berry’s “In Defense of the Small Farm” and respond to the prompt, and/or to a peer’s post.
For February 15:
Read Barbara Ehrenreich’s Maid to Order and respond to the prompt, and/or to a peer’s post.
For February 22:
Read Kirill Medvedev’s essay and poems and respond to the prompt, and/or to a peer’s post.
For February 27:
Read “Responding to Other Students’ Writing” and respond to the prompt, and/or to a peer’s post.
Read the first drafts of paper one from your peer review groups. Please print, mark, and bring to class.
For March 1:
Read Mandelstam poems (introduction optional) and comment on the blog. Work on revision, final draft is due Friday.
For March 13:
Read “On Reading and Thinking Critically.” Using the annotation techniques described, perform a second, close reading of the text you will be using for your rhetorical analysis paper. Post on the blog about your experience with this.
