Esin Kiris is an adjunct professor at Computer Information Systems (CIS) department. She is also a user experience (UX) design professional, manager, technologist and innovator. She is driven to deliver exceptional world-class software product designs, with experience in building, growing and managing high-performance user experience teams, and passionate to teach the most innovative system analysis and design techniques and tools.
Currently, she is the director of User Experience (UX) design group at Fareportal Inc., an eCommerce travel technology company. Her responsibilities are eliciting user requirements, gathering business requirements, creating user stories, wireframes, mockups and prototypes, and conducting user testing and user acceptance testing sessions via practicing Agile software development methodology.
Prior to joining Fareportal, she was the head of UX design group at Syncsort Inc., a Big Data software development company between 2012 and 2016. In 2004, she co-founded the Product Design – UX Design group at CA Technologies. In few years, the UX design team grew to 40 professionals, including information architects, interaction designers, visual designers, business analysts and usability engineers across multiple business units, product lines and geographies.
Since her first job with Bell Labs, she has been gathering user requirements, designing business applications for small, medium, and enterprise customers, converting Windows applications into Web applications, designing customer self-service web sites, conducting user experience research studies, and designing and prototyping next generation product ideas for Web, Mobile, Cloud, Desktop, Linux and Unix.
One of her important strengths is translating the ‘voice of the customer’ into business and marketing requirements for new digital products across multiple product lines for multiple platforms.
As a researcher, she also has extensive experience creating personas, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, design review reports, usability reports, customer interview questionnaires and surveys. She has extensive professional experience in the field of requirements management, interaction design, information architecture, visual design, software product development lifecycles, product roadmaps, customer requirements and marketing research.
She is also a technologist with strong software tool knowledge and hands-on experience, and an innovator with 3 patents (2 awarded, 1 in process) and over a dozen journal and conference papers. She also excels at public speaking, including customer, industry and professional events, as well as internal audiences.
