Design thinking is more an approach to problem solving than a solution generator. Yes solutions to problems are the ultimate goals of any endeavor that employs design thinking, and the process only matters to the extent that the solution works well. But what distinguishes design thinking from other problem solving methods, and what I find most interesting, is the emphasis on the approach of the problem and not just the solution. Design thinking considers not only the problem to be solved, but also all of the causes and symptoms related to the problem and what is/are the best way(s) to affect all angles of said problem. This approach can be extremely valuable not only for solving large problems, but can also broaden one’s approach to every day situations that even though they may not seem like problems, can certainly be improved.
