Vectors, or the camera’s point-of-view, will be important in my piece as I want my audience to feel a sense of closeness to my subject, Kitty, as if they are there with her. This will be the foundation of my piece as the next emotion I want to evoke is a sense of loss by created “empty shots.” Empty shots are made by using the same camera point of view so viewers feel like they’re looking from the same perspective except Kitty will be missing from the camera. This creates an unexpected sense of loss for viewers. Mirroring is an interested way to show the subject but I don’t think it’s the best fit for creating a feeling of closeness with the subject and could be distracting. I hope to use the bomerang effect in my piece to finish off the sense of loss I intend to create, perhaps a feeling of looking into the past.
The best imagery of cold media I can think of is Generation Xers at home alone, as this generation experienced the highest divorce rate than any other, with their TV’s as their baby sitter. It was a time when advertising was rampant to the point where Gen Xers became numb and distrusting of it. Cold media is does not have an interactive component to it. Hot media, on the other hand does. It’s not someone screaming from a megaphone in Times Square but someone starting up a conversation at a bar. Hot media included social networks, like Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit and Instagram where users interact with each other.
