Elwes, “Introduction”

“Performance art offered possibly the most perfect medium of artistic communion because life and art came together in a shared event or collective ‘happening’. In live art, no artifact stood between the artist and audience and no object remained after the event to be collected, sanctioned and sanctified by the critics, historians and collectors controlling the art establishment.”

I have never realized performance art is different than many other art types. I am a type of person that tries to record everything and I was amazed when one of my friends told me I should record things to my own memory because I can’t keep everything as a record. I felt the same thing and this came to my mind when I was reading this passage. I have never realized that performance art is now. It occurs at the present and I am also amazed by this idea because it is so fresh. You rather get it or forget it. The ideas are suddenly there and they disappear later on. It’s so natural that you don’t have a chance to fix the wrong. I think it doesn’t have a purpose to sell, rather it is a powerful thoughts that needs to be spread.
