Elwes Introduction Response

In Elwes’ Introduction he speaks about an American artist named Vito Acconci. Acconci used video art to twist and bend the audience’s perception and sense of time and space. By doing so he activates our fight of flight response causing some of his audience to run away. This is a pretty interesting way to use live video and pre-recorded video to have a deep effect on people’s perception. I’ve noticed that modern movie director’s also try this, although mostly in horror movies. The directors will amplify sound and position their actors in a way to twist the audience’s perception of whether they’re in the space or not. This works really well with people like me who have overactive imaginations and can be convinced very easily visually.
