The quote I chose from Debora is: “The Spectacle is capital accumulated to the point where it becomes image. “The Spectacle of Life is an article that is a guideline of media, population, demand, and capitalism. The Spectacle is supposed to be the videos people record and post to their social media blogs and sites. Debord describes this spectacle as “turning reality on its head.” Meaning viewers and the actual people who post the videos buy into the nonsense or the general idea of a harmless video. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the rest of these social media applications distorts reality of peoples lives. Apparently, it is of the norm to take pictures of your food before you eat it, caption a quote from a famous scholar or celebrity, post it you your site and watch the “Likes” go up on your post. I admit to have doing that because once I had a beautiful prepared steak with whiskey and fresh vegetables and I wanted to show my friends how nice it looked. But posting a picture or video of melting ice cream and captioning “My soul is melting in sadness but I still keep smiling for you.” by a poet is very strange. From a marketing standpoint, corporations profit from the demand of consumers. They want more likes and views so new software and new apps need to be developed. So I guess if both sides win then the spectacle is a manipulation of profit and people, but for the “greater good of human” if that is the right way to put it.
