  1. Hi Jacqui:
Thank you for writing such an informed, well-researched problem memo to our governor. This is a real problem, that he could really do something to change. You clearly stated the problem in succinct terms, and asked that the governor “take a stand”. However, even though you stated some of laws currently in place and their limitations, I thought you could have more clearly and specifically stated what you would like the Governor to do.

Your use of statistics to show just how serious the problem is, and making your case specifically to NY was very well done. Personally, I don’t know of anyone who has been personally affected by human trafficking, but your memo made me think that anyone I come into contact to could be part of this issue; the cleaning person at a hotel I recently stayed at or the clothing I wear could be the product of forced labor.

One thing I especially liked was that you took the time to compel the reader’s imagination, by talking about the NY Times piece on human trafficking. You also mentioned what I believe to be true, that sensitive subjects like this often go “muted”. Thank you for turning up the volume on it!

  2. Hi! This was great. When more than 11,000 people in NYC are victims of human trafficking, there is clearly a problem. (Even one would be a problem, but 11,000? Unacceptable.) Did you know that ACS has an office dedicated to this now? It’s small, but I believe it’s called the Office of Child Trafficking Prevention and Policy. Also, have you heard of GEMS? It’s an NYC organization devoted to helping victims of child trafficking and sexual exploitation. Great job! Thanks for writing this well researched and comprehensive account of the issue.
