3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 Both Heart of Darkness and Season of Migration to the North tell stories of cultural encounters that have tragic consequences. Compare how both of these novels portray cultural identity and cultural misunderstanding. Are there fixed, permanent boundaries between cultures? Or are we all the same, “with minor differences?” What happens in these novels when Europeans and Africans meet? Why and how do they misunderstand one another?

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 Choose one short passage (no more than a paragraph/page or two) from either Heart of Darkness or Season of Migration to the North, analyze it in depth, and show how it explains, reflects or typifies the style and content of the whole work. What sort of figurative language do you find in it? Connect the keywords in the passage to the theme of the book? What can it teach us about the author’s style? How does it express the author’s message?

5 Leave a comment on paragraph 5 0 * If you would like to propose an original topic, different from the two above, I’ll be happy to consider it. Make sure you mention this in your thesis draft.
