Blog Post #1: Walk Down History
Mir Silvy on Sep 12th 2017
On September 5th one of my class was canceled for the day. I mean that sounds awesome right, but when I looked at my schedule I just wanted to cry. I had a gap of five hours until my next class. Now here I was on my second week of college with a five-hour gap of doing nothing. That’s when my friend Grace had an awesome idea. She quickly took out her phone and searched up The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s direction from Baruch. We decided on killing two birds with one stone. Don’t worry no birds were killed in the process. With my friends Grace and Anita, all three of us decided to go to the MET. See for our Latin Study class we have a project to describe an art from Mesoamerica, and as well as that, we have to write our first freshman blog post. Our plan seemed full proof we go to the museum and get our work done.
When we got to the Museum obviously, the first thing we did was head to the Mesoamerican art section. Our schoolwork means a lot to us. We stayed in the Mesoamerican art section for half an hour gazing at the beautiful art works of the Olmec, the Mayan and the Aztec. Personally, I was mostly taking pictures for snapchat; museum is a great place for memes. After we were done with our research for our Latin class we ended up visiting the Roman and Byzantine art and other sections of the museum. I noticed something, maybe others have noticed also, the lighting in the Roman and Western civilization art section seems to be bright. In the Egypt, China, India and even Mesoamerican section of the museum, the lighting is much darker. Maybe the artwork is suited for special lighting. Anyways after enjoying the rich artful history of human civilization we ended up heading back to Baruch. I was quite happy, I even got to see some art works from Byzantine, which is my personal my favorite place because I have a story in mind for the Byzantine Empire.

Just photobombing the couple behind me.
