Annotated Bibliography

1. Super Size Me. Dir. Morgan Spurlock. Perf. Morgan Spurlock. Samuel Goldwyn Films Roadside Attractions, 2004.

In this documentary Morgan Spurlock made an experiment on himself; he wouldn’t eat or drink anything besides the staff from McDonald’s menu for 30 days; he must eat three square meals a day, he must eat everything on the menu at least once and supersize his meal if he would be asked. He trekked across the country interviewing a host of experts on fast food and a number of regular folks while downing McDonald’s to try and find out why 37% of American are now overweight. 

I will use it as a real visual evidence of fast food’s health effects.

2. Schlosser, Eric. (2001). Fast food nation: The dark side of the all-American meal, Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Co., 356 pp

In this best-selling book, journalist Eric Schlosser chronicles the history of the fast food industry and seeks to describe the industry’s impacts on the economy and American society. He has been investigating the fast food industry for years. Schlosser has interviewed slaughterhouse workers; cattle ranchers; potato farmers; fast food employees, founders, and franchisees; and families who have lost a loved one to food poisoning. From his extensive research and travels for this book, he has unearthed a wealth of little-known, often unsettling truths about the fast food industry.

I will use it to highlight harmful components of the fast food and show their close connection with obesity and following negative health impact.

This web site demonstrates which organs and human activity systems are under the impact of fast food. It also describes this impacts based on such authoritative sources as American Heart Association, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and others.

I will use it as a reference point for my discussion of fast food’s health effects on the body.

This site has a huge information base in a field of life sciences and medicine.

I will use it to consider some sicknesses and obesity related with consuming fast food.

This ready reference objectively explores the American obsession through products, corporations and entrepreneurs, social history, popular culture, organizations, issues, politics, commercialism and consumerism, and much more.

I will use this source for giving some interesting facts from fast food history.

Statista is one of the world’s largest statistics portals. It’s infographics transform complex topics into clear, conceptual and visually striking designs. They serve as informative and eye-catching additions to any website, newsletter or in social media activities.

I will use their statistic researches as a background information, to demonstrate the growth of fast food industry together with the growth of portions they are selling and also, the growth of human population suffering from obesity.

CNBC is an American basic cable, internet and satellite business news television channel. It  provides a variety of programs throughout the business day.

I will use this resource as a proof of the argument of the source (2) about a possibility of containing E. coli bacteria in ground beef, and also the fact of using chemical additives which allow the food not to get spoiled literally for decades.

The New York Post is an American daily newspaper, primarily distributed in New York City and its surrounding area. It is the 13th-oldest and seventh-most-widely circulated newspaper in the United States.

I will use this resource as a proof of the argument of the source (2) about a possibility of containing E. coli bacteria in ground beef

I will use this material as motivation to avoid fast food.
