“There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story.”

Here is my final post of NMA 2050! 🙂 it combines the animation of Photoshop and it actually has sound, unlike the other one. 🙁
As an artist, I still have much to learn. This class has taught me different fields of art and helped me grow as an artist. Although I didn’t really grow much; because what I got from this class was not advanced skills of art, but rather a ignited passion for it, this is the reason why I’ve decided to become an art minor. In terms of inspiration, I wasn’t really affected by much of the material in the semester except for the cartoons in the beginning. I couldn’t stop laughing 🙂 I plan to improve my skills by continue drawing and implementing animation to help achieve a lifelong goal that I have been pursuing, which is to be part of video game design. It’s going to be a huge hurdle and a long road, but I look forward to the upcoming challenges.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

My favorite part of this semester was the photoshop/animation part. Even though my artistic skills are not even close to good, I still had alot of fun working on both the photo aspect and the animation aspect too.
For my final project, I would like it to be something to push my skills as an artist, and since it’s December already, it will be winter theme. My project will be an animated winter scene. The added element will be an audio file playing music that would hopefully enhance the scene that I hope to portray.

I was not sure which artist to choose from the immense list of people in the link, but I’m glad I chose DJ Food. Just his name intrigues me because after finding his name the first thought that came to my mind was “Is his name DJ, or is he an actual DJ?” While listening to his mix, I heard both songs that I have never heard of and songs that I haven’t heard in ages. DJ Food’s mix “Raiding the 20th Century” was a great throwback to top songs that I have listened to and was very nostalgic to my childhood. I felt that DJ Food is a bit of a ‘hacker’ himself; referring to the last blog post, “Hacker Manifesto” by McKenzie Wark. In “Raid of the 20th Century,” he didn’t just play songs from awhile ago, he combined them while at the same time included sounds that talked about things like pirating/ torrenting, he also used sounds from what sounds like commercials from the twentieth century. One aspect of DJ Food as a ‘hacker’ is that after he released his mix on XFM in London, it was a massive hit that was shared to a huge mass of interested parties.
I love how he transitions between songs with parts of dialogue from what sounds like an interview from a radio session. It keeps you interested and at the same time informed on the culture around DJ Food as he was designing this remix. I feel that even though its a mix and combination of various different styles of music, it’s still innovative and creative. I like the name “Raiding the 20th Century,” and how DJ Food Starts with the 20th Century Fox theme and the 20th Century Fox outro; which in my eyes seems to declare the ending of a century and to usher in the 21st Century.

Growing up around technology, I’ve always had some sort of excitement and interest in hacking, hackers, and the limitless potential one can do with a computer; so naturally, I was really interested in this text. After reading this text, I feel like I have seen another side of ‘hackers.’ Through hacking, new possibilities are made, good or bad. he talks about hacking not just as a illegal technological exploit, but as creating something unique, new, original, however not yours. I like how Wark states that hackers are not just limited to smart tech-savvy people that know their way around virtual data banks, but as innovators and at the same time a new class.
I’m not that very good at wrapping my head around the abstract so reading Wark’s excerpt about abstraction was challenging for me to mull over. I think that this part of Wark’s writing was important because it was here that he defines what a hacker does as an individual and as a class.
What I don’t actually like about Wark’s writing is that it becomes too much into the abstract and I would catch myself skimming past things that I might found interesting; but i guess that’s just a personal dislike.
When Wark talks about how Education is slavery, I agree and disagree at the same time. Education is what you make of it after you take it in. It could be viewed as a guideline and slight helper of your future, or it can be the framework of a career that you spend all your life chasing after only to be a cog in a machine called a company.
Above everything that Wark has written, I do agree on his definition of hackers and what they do. They are above the normal ways of education, they create something of their own design, however it may not be approved by society, nor might it even be owned by its creator; however you cannot deny that these ‘hackers’ are bringers of new change and change is always good because it ushers in new experiences brings light to new discoveries.

I wanted this project to be creative and emphasize the word ‘fun.’ However, over the past couple of weeks all of the ideas that I had came up with didn’t really fit the image that I was looking for. While walking home, the sunlight was perfectly aligned to show my shadow in front of me. Then it clicked; my inspiration was the shadow that hid my face.
We all act differently in different situations. We act one way when we’re at home; we act completely different when we’re with friends. In certain social settings, the best thing to do is to be as professional as you can be; even though you are the silliest and funniest person ever.
I wanted this photo to personify our “inner selves.” Ranging from the party animal to the cynical genius. Although I maybe neither, I’m pretty sure you can tell from this photo that I’m just a goofball.

Monday was a fun day to talk about plastic. I got to learn a bunch of things about plastic and recycling. The tidbit about the floating pieces of garbage in the ocean kinda reminded me of a clogged toilet after a night of ravenous cravings. I was happy that I was able to do something about that foam banana that had been sitting in my room for over a year. I was pretty happy to see that not everyone had brought a water bottle that they had maybe just finished 5 minutes before class. I feel that my banana was pretty amusing and the most enjoyable item that was brought today. I felt very clever that I had brought one since I was pretty confident that no one had a foam banana. I had brought an eraser as an extra item in case my foam banana was not acceptable for the project. The eraser was in the form of a purple and white panda that had the ability to take off the white “fur.” Without the “fur” it kinda looked like some weird deformed bug. Plastic plays a really important role in our society and since it’s basically integrated with our everyday lives due to its accessibility, cost-efficiency, and convenience. It was pretty interesting to hear about the different types of plastic like how foam plastics are usually polyurethane and some hard bottle plastics are made up of polyethylene terephthalate. When we were asked to fill out the tags for our plastic project submissions, I added a comment on the back of it. It is a reference to the video game “League of Legends,” since that’s where I got the banana from. I hope someone who is looking at the banana on display will be able to understand the reference. To be honest, I am not that really interested in things like environmental protection and the such, but I really respect those who spend their time and resources into creating a cleaner world.
