This article suggests that the plan stemmed from an book published by economists Claudia Goldin and Lawrence Katz called “The Race Between Education and Technology. The book details how America became such a powerhouse during the 20th century in the global economy. It suggests this was done by having universal high school established which created a sort of increase in “human-capital” and creating a nation of educated people. Now Obama suggests is the time to move to the next step, Free community college for those who show the ability to preform at a stable GPA and be able to go to college at least part time.

I Believe he is right. As the world around us evolves so does our society, and in order to do that we need a new nation. We need a nation of educated people so that they can lead the world to a better life. When i first heard of this in High school i remember one of my teachers were completely against this proposal as he said this would make us a socialist society, but i think this would be for the better and could lead more people to do what they actually want in life.
