Today’s workshop was more of a recap of what we learned over Freshman orientation and our convocation. The career advisor explained to us the breakdowns of the separate degrees we can earn. She told us some of the required courses one would have to take in order to achieve these degrees. Also she explained to us that as a Freshman we cannot schedule an appointment with a career advisor but we can go online to the Baruch website and complete a degreeworks audit. This will help us see how many credits we have or need. Even though we learned about what was talked about today, I thought it was a very good review on what I should know.
It’s nice that you brough up the degreeworks audit since it’s a very useful tool. It basically gives you the blueprint of the courses you need to take, and keep track of the credits you earned.
In terms of career advisement, different from academic advisement, the Starr Career Development Center (SCDC) is also another good place to visit. I would tell just about anyone to go to the Center from the time they are freshmen through senior year graduation.
“The staff of the SCDC is dedicated to assisting students in all aspects of their career development as they make decisions about majors, apply to graduate and law school, prepare for internships and jobs, and develop the soft skills necessary to become successful in their chosen future careers.” (http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/careers/)
