stress and anxiety

I’m not a very stressed out person. I feel like I handle tough situations very well. Albeit, there are times when I bite my fist in frustration but usually thats only when my blood sugar is low ;D  I thought this would be helpful because I sometimes in my fist-biting fury I do get stressed. Also, it is very common for students in college to be stressed in general. The seminar informed us of different ways to reduce stress. However, peronally i thought the tactics were somewhat odd? Somethings were helpful, but I wasn’t ecstatic about the seminar overall.

DH (dolls house)

;D I don’t know why I abbrev the title if I’m going to spell it out anyways. The Doll House play was alright. It was more of a reading than an actual play. We went with the English class and it took some time finding the theater. The actors and actresses were reading off the papers, but it was a free play and it play itself was good. I also really liked the theater. It was pretty decent in size and the stage was nice.

ED (einsteins dreams)

This play felt like a bad acid trip. We had to watch it for our theatre class and it was $10 for the ticket. The play was really complex in my opinion and it was really hard to understand. The theater was really small too. It was in the 23rd st building and this theater also took some time finding. I thought the play was really complex compared to the other plays I’ve watched. It was hard to understand. The lights were used nicely though and it was still worth the watch.

Einsteins Dreams

I attended Einsteins Dreams with the majority of my class and overall the play was very well done and very interesting. We watched a modernist play “Mütter, Väter, Kinder” in Theater class to prepare us for some of the things we would see in the play. Compared to Mütter, Väter, Kinder Einstiens Dreams was much more  understandable and not as weird when it came to stage direction and movement. The use of lighting was also very well done and the actors and actresses used everything at there disposal amazingly.

FRO Internships

I attended this workshop on if I remember correctly November 10,. The workshop’s purpose is to inform students about internships, essentially what is an internship, what we should do during an internship, and how we can get one. The speaker showed a powerpoint presentation. It was pretty informative, I learned that while most companies want sophomores or juniors, there are some special programs that are directed toward freshmen. We were also given a booklet in the beginning with other information and some sample resumes.

Studying Abroad

I forgot to blog about this workshop from back in September. From what I remember, there were tables set up which informed us of the different programs offered for studying abroad in places like London, and Spain. I remember those two specifically because I knew those were places I would love to visit. Hopefully within my junior year at Baruch I will take the opportunity to go visit other places.

A Doll’s House, a play I’ve seen in my ENG. class

A Doll’s House is 1879 play by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. It is said that the play it is sharply critical of 19th century marriage norms, and I do agree, but I think it is more than just a critique, it is a warning which is carried across time and space limits which are physical factors in boundaries of cultural differences. We should not, however, forget, A Doll’s House is about disintegration of relationships. Family as institution fails, but the question remaining is “Why”? And perhaps we should seek the answer in ourselves. Our nature, our wants and needs, as well as circumstances of the “decay” itself should be accounted for. Maybe the issue’s beginnings lie deeper in the past. Those indeed are profound questions. The gravity of the matter, which even in cases absurd, should never be taken lightly, it must be considered with all the respect it deserves and attention required. Not to mention, the play as a theatrical performance,  and it’s point are still valid. Even in our times of reason, we are considered so educated and civil, yet I’d say refinement of knowledge is not the same as refinement of morality in culture. In practice integration of ethics in everyday lives, while preserving the balance of order and freedom to act, is quite complicated. With our society being so advanced and intelligent, we sometimes do forget that we’re still just people with all the flaws ensuing. In response to Dylan’s comment I can only say that although I generally agree with his view, I find that there are certain differences in our respective positions regarding the play. I too, found it to be a refreshing experience, although I the play’s enactment itself rather of “polyhedral angle” in its nature. And since I saw the play before I can say that, for example, the character which was cut from this particular production, although not crucial to the play’s development and the message delivery, in my belief, the doctor, would’ve been an asset, yet I do understand the financial difficulties the department is experiencing. Also, I would like to emphasize how the air, Nora’s actions make one feel about what kind of person she represents, is very changed. The perspective on it is different at the beginning from that of the one in mind of an audience, created by the events and actions at the end of the play.

This play for the lack of better words, has raised a lot of commotion and not for nothing, after all as I say, “the times change and we are the change in them”… The response it procured in me is very strong, for my emotions regarding the happenings of the play, my feelings toward the play, as those affect my standing on the issue, are conflicting. I can only say that I am truly intrigued, which is very important in theatre, or I would think so. I will definitely recommend this play to anyone interested in the issues presented by it.

Einstein’s Dreams, the play, Theatre.

The play, just Prima facie, was simply brilliant and exceptionally well performed, which was at Bernie West Theatre. And I would like to mention that in my opinion the theatre itself was rather small, making the actions performed seem a little cramped. Plus, I should think that such a great play should be seen by many, it doesn’t even matter if its message wasn’t understood by some, it was still uniquely beautiful as a performance. Considering the funds for the department being cut in half, I’m very happy to be surprised at the talent still breaking the boundaries of possible through all of this tedious bureaucracy. Having to put on the great play for just $5K is just inconsiderate, brutal and should count as action of vandalism in arts. The actors, however, did the best they could with what they’ve got, and the best it was, indeed they proved to be immensely talented in their field. I wish them all to succeed in all their further ventures. Speaking of the play itself, Einstein’s Dreams was directed by our theatre class professor, Brian Rhinehart. The play is modern, in all ways possible, yet talent makes it more classic than anything new performed today, which only goes to show that it’s not what you do by how you do it what matters most. There is no single storyline, it is rather a show of impossible yet most meaningful and realistic possibilities. And as theoretical physicist would say, ” in accordance with “Many-Worlds” interpretation of quantum mechanics, all eventualities exist, eventually…” And although such an intriguing play with a theme what should be “right up my alley”, would definitely interest me, I was not aware of it’s existence prior to my professor telling me about it, he was also correct in guessing that I would like it.  So, I am thankful for this introduction. My reaction to this electrifying happening can only be described as that of a man bedazzled, completely submersed in the experience filled by flux of emotions with sadness mixed in eudaimonia. It is suffering of labors forgotten merging with happiness of achievement not for recognition but for the greater purpose, and finished off with a dash of intensity, hint of sights unseen. All of this creates just the right taste of ecstatic wonder and hype, leaving the audience craving for more, …absolutely addictive. I should consider myself being most certainly a fan of both the play itself and its stage performance.

Bravo, Bravissimo!!! Veni, vidi, vice!!! _. I can’t wait for that will come next.
