5. Student Life

To fulfill the Student Life category I attended the “Your Life, Your Money” by HSBC presentation. This has been my favorite and most enlightening workshop. Not to mention, I got so many freebies!!! This worskhop was about teaching teens, specifically college students, but anyone who wanted to learn how to save, invest, set up retirement funds, stay out of unnecessary debt, how easy it is to fall onto debt, and how to make your money (no matter much or how little) work for you and not the other way around. It was an eye opener to how easily a young woman from Florida activated a credit card she didn’t apply for and managed to rack up $30,000+ of debt. Two of subjects in the film were actually present to take questions from audience member as well as the producer of the film. This taught me the necessity of saving. I knew it was important because it would be ome handy if ever I was in a jam or needed it for that faithful “rainy day”. In addtition, I also learned just how important living within your means really is. Splurging here and there sometimes can be dangerous. This workshop brought light to how important it is for individuals to keep track of their credit score. I’ve heard of this before, but never understood its importance or its purpose. I feel like after attending this workshop I had a clearer visual of how successful I can be not just with a good education and the right job, but by just managing my money in a savvy and smart way. Worth staying late after school to attend!!!!
