Library workshop and Career planning: impression workshops

The career planning workshop was about first impressions and ways to make impressions first time around. Talked about stuff like dressing and language and swag. I think its good and informative for people who never been to internship or job.  Although the workshop was quite long and room was really small for the size of audience so people had to stand in the back.

Library workshop was about using the school’s database. Using the school database to do papers or work or any kind for the matter. The setup for database is that of a search engine and I found it helpful having never actually checked out the site or the library. Using the database its easier to find specially what your looking for and sources are reliable. Knowing about this I’ll prob end up using it for my papers.

Community – Blood Drive

10/07/09 – I ended up not giving any blood because there was such a long queue and the wait for each person was around five to ten minutes.  I think there would have been a lot more donations if it had lasted past four o’clock.  However, while I was filling out the medical paperwork I noticed how many different restrictions there are for being a possible blood donor.  Also, I learned that there are certain ‘red flag’ countries that at risk for spreading a certain disease which would immediately make a blood donor unqualified.  The workshop definitely increased my awareness to the actual need for blood in hospitals, because I never knew where donations go after they are donated.  People with hemophilia, sickle-cell, and major traumas are in extreme need of blood virtually every second of our lives.

Academic Enrichment – Advisement Orientation

9/17/09 – No part of the orientation brought the word ‘workshop’ to mind.  It is true that students were there just to get their notebooks signed and leave, but that is because there was nothing set up in the office to look at.  I thought it was going to be a nice, organized presentation that lasted about maybe fifteen minutes, with a well-planned speech by an academic adviser/ representative.  This workshop did not reach out to the students in the least.  I picked up some pamphlets and talked briefly with an adviser, so it would not have been a total waste of time.  But again, this was just my own initiative and nowhere was there any directions or announcements about what we should do when we’re there.  On the bright side, the adviser I finally managed to talk to was very helpful and told me how I can set up an appointment.

Personal Enrichment

Ok, so I went to the “managing relations in college” personal enrichment workshop. The workshop honestly was pretty boring for most part atmosphere was like people just wanted to get in get out get it signed. I can’t say I learned anything that didn’t already know. It was about relationships and networking and importance of such… I’ve already started doing internships with some companies before does anyone know if Baruch has any connections to any well known enterprises? more along the lines of anaylst, trader, the marketing field I supose. I’ve done all my internship’s near wall st. and easy place to get around so if anyone knows if baruch has connections to any companies in that downtown area hit me. thanks

There guess thats my required blog…

First required blog!!- First Enrichment Workshop

Hey Guys,

I hope that so far school has been a wonderful experience and everyone is involved and very productive.  I have been trying to find that perfect balance so that I don’t lose my mind.  I have been very “caught up” with studying for the constant tests that have been coming my way, if your situation is the same all the best to you and make sure to manage your time wisely to avoid unnecessary pressure.

As you will all recall, blogs are a required part of the course; to share your experiences with respect to the enrichment workshops so as to provide a learning environment outside of the classroom for all of us.  With this in mind the question or task at hand is to Provide a detailed account of your FIRST enrichment workshop i.e

– what you liked most about the workshop

-something new you learned from the workshop

-a detail that stood out most to you

-how anything you learned is applicable outside of the school world

HAPPY BLOGGING!!!  I look forward to the responses from each and everyone of you.

UPDATES

Hey

For all of you have set up your blog accounts, Thank You!!  I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say on different issues.  Please be mindful that you should check the blogs daily for updates and it can be fun if we all participate.  I am not sure if some of the students have had any problems with setting up their blog, if any of you heard anything from them please urge them to inform me so we can fix it as this is a requirement of passing the course.  It would be a shame if a little blog affects others passing this class.  I sent out an email to everyone informing them of all of the workshops available.  I encourage you to take a look and respond by letting me know which ones you will be going to.

Have a good week and I look forward to corresponding with all of you.
