Using & evaluate the web for research

10/20 12:30-01:30 Library

It is a very useful workshop. I always have a hard time when I am doing my research paper. It takes me so much time to search online just for a single source. I typed in the key word in the search bar, but just can’t find what I want.

I like the teacher right there, he showed us step by step. From this workshop I knew that, use key word is not the only way to search on Google.  By using the quotation marks and use “&” and “or” also will help us find out the information that we want. At the same time, it will filter out much not useful information and help us find out the right resource much more quickly.

Blood Drive

11:00-4:00 VC1-107

Today I went to blood drive. I have donated once when I was in high school. At first time, I was a little bit nervous. But, when I saw the blood came out of my vessels, I released all of my fears. It is an easy job. Many nurses are kind and they help you to overcome the fear. When I found that, I still have opportunity to donate blood in Baruch College. I feel very responsible to be a part of society. Even though, it is a very light force for our society, if it has a chance to save a person’s life, I will be very proud of myself. I just find out my blood type is B+, it is the best Platelets donator. This morning, I was very happy to donate my blood again. But the sadness is I don’t have higher enough blood pressure. It is just because I didn’t eat breakfast in the morning. I missed this great opportunity.  But if I have change to go for next time, I definitely will eat well before I go and be preparing for everything that I need to do.

Perspectives on Immagration(Community awareness)

I attended a lecture given by Rob Smith in which he discusses the topic of his next book. He explained to us how he attained all the data for the book and the various theories that framed the whole piece together. His book deals with the children of immigrants and their economic/social mobility in the United States whether that be upward or downward. I personally found the lecture very interesting because some of the issues that were discussed related to some of cousins I know. I found this workshop to be informative in the sense that I learn something new, but I don’t know if this fits in the Community awareness section of workshops.

Arts(metropolitian museum)

I went to the Metropolitan Museum over weekend. This is the second time going to this museum, first time during High School in order to complete a art project. The museum is huge but I only really spent my time looking at Asian and modern art, mainly paintings. The thing i find intriguingwith art is like a message. Some paintings are representation of events that had happened during the era of paintings. Others seek to convey a message such as urge for change.

Aside from modern and Asian art, the museum also has large collection of Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Islamic, and Medieval art. Collections comprising of works of art such as sculptures, paintings, pottery, weapons, and armors used in period. The last place I went to before I left was Roof Garden which has a lot of modern art. I recommend the Museum to anyone before it contains a lot of other types of art such as all types of international musical instruments.

Blood Drive

I gave blood for the first time when I was a senior in high school. They reccommended 8 hours of sleep and a full meal before you donate blood. However, the night before I donated I was in NYC and got about 3 hours of sleep and didn’t eat anything. The process went smoothly anyway, and I wasn’t nervous about giving the blood. I tried giving blood at Baruch earlier in the year and couldn’t get a good time to do it. So I got the signature and will be donating in December.

Mediating Conflict November 12

This workshop was great. My only complaint was that at first we were told only people who registered could attend, but I worked the system and was able to stay. The discussion during this workshop was very open and we discussed ways to resolve all types of issues. Whether the issues be at work, at school or even in the home. It wasn’t too length and it ended up being very informative.

Dollhouse Play November

I did not read this book or get to catch the whole act, but from what I saw it was a good experience. I didn’t get to feel moved by the play because I didn’t get to see everything, but I could see why people would like it. I got the idea that the play was about a marriage that was once very good, but somehow made a turn for the worst.

Club Fair September 17

Although it was a few months ago, I remember it like it was yesterday. Clubs from all over Baruch were in attendance at this far. It was kind of overwhelming at first, especially upon entering the fair. I signed up for several clubs/organizations in order to meet more people and network. I was surprised that there was dancing and music, that made the event much better. For future fairs I would say there should be more refreshments haha.

Impression Management November 5

This workshop was one of my favorites. We went over a lot of different material regarding how to be presentable whether it be on an interview or at a meeting. The first impression is key and that’s what they tried to get across to us. We have to also make good impressions at hiring events as well as job fairs. Be as presentable and as approachable as you can.

Basic Interviewing November 12

This workshop was helpful for me. I had just applied for a new job and needed to brush up my skills in order for me to get the job. In the workshop I learned about a proper handshake, what to wear and overall how to act when I get onto the company’s property and when I’m inside. They were willing to answer questions about the mock interviews too, so it was a great experience.
