Obama and Sotomayor Discussion Panel

I attended the discussion panel on October 14th and I thought it was really interesting on the topic of how many people use race to define everyone and use it as a way to differentiate people from one another. I thought it was interesting that if we were able to remove the idea of using race to divide people that we would need to come up with something that would replace it however it wouldn’t be possible as of now. I think that although we don’t like the idea of stereotyping and generalizing because of one’s race, we still do it anyways. For example, on the first day of class,  a student would look around and they would generalize based on their classmatess’ appearances and sit with whoever they feel most comfortable with, based on race. Race is inevitable. I found that the discussion was very interesting and informative. I hope to attend more discussion panels such as this one. 🙂
