This was an outstanding workshop. The workshop was hosted by the PBS station and HSBC bank. The whole thing took two hours but it was worth it. I learned so many life learned skills and wisdom dealing with my future with money. How to gain good credit and how to avoid bad credit, and many other I would also list. The speakers were also engaging and there was a 45 min video for the audience which I enjoyed very much and found helpful. At the end of the session they had a raffle for Barnes and Nobles giftcards and I won one. I used the card to buy SAT books and a beginner’s guide to drums for my brothers and got myself a big book of tattoo designs. Pretty awesome.
Obama and Sotomayor
I only went to this because my history teacher was offering extra credit if we went. I remember being at school since 8 in the morning and I really didn’t want to go because I was very tired but I went anyway and sat through it. It was pretty boring and I fell asleep during it. It was also pretty long.
Club Fair
This club fair was somehow very unorganized and packed. The place was packed, it was hard to navigate from tables to tables. I didn’t find a lot of clubs quite interesting. The music playing the background was rather too loud and distractive trying to alter my attention towards other things. I wish there was more room in the future for people to move around. Nothing much to say otherwise, I didn’t quite enjoy it as much as others I believe.
Resume Writing
I went to a workshop from the STARR Career Development Center on Oct 19th. This was the most helpful workshop I’ve attended so far in Baruch College. The speaker in this workshop was very engaging that the hour didn’t feel so long and tedious. In this workshop, the speaker gave us many good tips on how to write and present a well and efficient resume. He also provided a packet in which we can fill out to give us guidelines while writing our resumes. Overall, I was very satisfied with this workshop and the things that were taught that day will stick onto me for the rest of my college and working life.
Library Workshop
On November 4th, I decided to tell my english professor that I won’t be in class because I am attending a workshop in the library about surfing the web and the websites to use. In the workshop I’ve learned about many researching tips and skills that will stick with me forever for the rest of my career in college. I’ve also learned how to use databases and learn which sites are legitament and which ones are fake. I’m very glad that attended this workshop because I have a research paper coming up and this will help me a lot.
galleria
I went to the gallery tour. Pretty cool stuff. I guess the tour was pretty good even though i did not pay attention and just browsed around.
Community-Global Awareness-The Changing Nature of Race, Power and Ethnicity in the era of Obama and Sotomayor
This session was recommended by my History professor. Though a good percentage of the crowd was composed of people coming in order to get extra credit, some were clearly interested in the topic at hand. My lasting impression came from me coming up to my professor after the lecture and having a discussion on Obama’s mainstream appeal leading up to the election, when another professor, Prof. Feit, joined our discussion. She and I had a fruitful discussion on the significance of race and culture in defining a people and a leading figure. She invited me to stop by her office to further discuss the issue, and I have done so from time to time during the semester. Because of this, I would have to say that the lecture was the most valuable workshop I went to, as it not only gave me an understanding of the chosen topic, but of the way in which to approach a professor when wanting to have an intellectual discourse that will stimulate the mind and lead to further academic success.
Personal Enrichment Workshop-Managing Relationships in College
When I think back to this workshop, I think of the forced interaction that had us do, which is always awkward and even more so in a workshop dedicated to addressing college relationships. Although I haven’t checked it out yet, they stressed the value of LinkedIn. I did search it up after the workshop, but I came across a funny video addressing the fruitlessness of social networking (or business networking as the case may be) of sites like LinkedIn and Twitter–nobody can find a job if EVERYBODY is looking for one. Overall, the session felt awkward through and through; from the forced mingling to the tone of the speaker. The content was decent, if a bit typical and obvious. It wasn’t a waste of time, but it could have been executed better.
