Donating Blood 10/7/09

I went to donate blood on Oct 7th.  This was not the first time I was doing it, so I was not nervous at all.  Before going in, I went to grab myself something to eat, which is something highly recommended before donating blood.  My appointment was for 2:45pm which obviously did not matter at the time of donating, because when I got there the wait was ridiculously long.  So, I sit there waiting to get my iron level checked with my best friend who by the way is anemic and couldn’t donate blood.  I must say that the tiny little needle they pinch your finger with hurts more than the needle they insert in your arm to take out blood.  The taking out blood process went really quick, fortunately I was not feeling dizzy at all, and was very happy with all the snacks (For those who haven’t noticed I’m addicted to food! – Love it).  I guess the worst part about it was the waiting, and I was very happy to be feeling the same afterwards because the last time I had donated blood, at the end I was feeling very very lightheaded.  Although I respect people’s needle phobias, I must say donating blood is not nerve-wrecking or as bad as people make it to be.  It actually makes you feel good about yourself because you’re helping someone in need.

About Astrid

My name is Astrid. I am 17 years old, well turning 18 on Sept 25. I was born in the Dominican Republic, and came to the United States at the age of 3 so I was basically raised here. I lived most of my youth in Queens, and moved to East New York (Brooklyn) about 4 years ago. I graduated from Murry Bergtraum High School, which is a business HS so I majored in Accounting. I decided I didn't want to go away for college, so I came to Baruch and I'm planning to hopefully major in Accounting if I don't change my mind along the way.
