Advice to the High Schoolers

When I entered Baruch I was not sure of how to balance the workloads for each class.  I now realize that homework isn’t something to get over with but it is something to have patience with and to actually learn something from.  Because Baruch is a commuter school many students fall under the impression that as soon as class is over, they should quickly return to their homes to complete homework or to relax.  After several months at Baruch I would advise new students not to run home as soon as the professors dismiss class but to go to the library and the BCTC.  Both provide resources for students, a place to concentrate and study, and a place to take a breath and relax.  If any entering student is completely lost in any class I would recommend for them to immediately make an appointment at SACC because the semester flies by and before you know it you will have taken your first test which I, myself was not prepared for.  If any student gets overwhelmed or becomes overly concerned with the future or whether or not they will get a job, I say that they should stop worrying about events that will occur far into the future and just maintain focus on the particular semester that one is in at any given moment.  The most important thing is to embrace the Baruch College experience – try your best, keep a positive attitude,  and try to have fun.  One last piece of advice is to be open to new friends.  Friends help each other out and can always relate to each other’s experiences.

About Marino Sorbara

Hello. My name is Marino Sorbara. I am from Valley Stream, NY. I have lived in Valley Stream for my whole life. I have an older brother who attends St. John's University. Most of my ancestors were born in Italy in a town located in Calabria. My parents were wed in Italy and then moved to New York to start a family. I myself, have been to Italy four times. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and cousins, playing cards, and playing soccer. I hope everything works out here at Baruch.
