I went to the workshop, Values, Pressure and Choosing a Major. I didn’t understand what was going on. The presentor had a British accent that I couldnt interpret. Throughout the workshop, he kept quoting famous people for a hourĀ and that was pretty much the workshop.
Freshman Seminar
I thought feshman seminar was a helpful class because it was very insightful, providing useful important that definitely assisted me in the transition to Baruch. Although the class was great, it would have been better if the class was at a later time.
Freshman Seminar
This class was overall okay. It showed me sites that I needed to know in order register and complete my assignments. The icebreakers were somewhat fun, but can be improved. The fact that it was a morning class didn’t help much cause the class was pretty much dead. It somewhat helped me, but I already knew most of the things that were explained and showed to us.
Managing Relationships
This workshop was not what I expected. It was in the multipurpose room which meant a lot of people were going. It was basically a person mentoring us what to do in order to make friends and to network. We had to get up to meet 5 different people, which wasnt bad but we just meet them and never going to see again. It was nice that they provided LINKIN.COM for us because a lot of people dont know this site. This workshop wasted my time when I could have done something else for my personal enrichment.
Resume Writing
This session was the most useful sessions out of all the workshops we did. I learned how to write an efficient resume and got some tips of what to do during an interview and how they test you. They gave a packet on resume and cover letter writing, which made me happy becuase I have something to refer back to if I ever needed to know how to format something on my resume. It had lists of things such as words to use and not use, and etc. It was an hour session which was longer than the other workshops but it was worth it.
Freshman Reception
This was..useless. Literally! I walked into the office thinking that I would be learning some tips on what classes to take and advice from the people. However, all they did was sign my paper and tell me to take BUS 1000, which I already know. But I didn’t mind the fact that they signed and let you go cause that’s what I intially wanted them to do! ><..
Arts Gallery Tour
The Arts Gallery Tour was intersting but tedious in waiting time. It had many pictures of famous and simple places. It had upclose views on certain things like cups, bamboo sticks, ripples and etc. I liked the introductions of each place so that we have information if we wanted to go. Personally, I would like to travel to the same places in the pictures, such as machu pichu, streams of venice, hills of spain, and etc.
Advice to High Schoolers
College is no joke. It may seem like its exactly like HS, but in reality it is so much different. The way that whether you go to class or not, if you do the work or not, the grades you get, it all depends on yourself. No one can help you but yourself. You will have to take the initiative to do things on your own and can’t rely on anyone. Even if you don’t like what they give you or their way of doing it, you still can’t control it and have to keep on going.
Values, Pressure, and Choosing a Major
This workshop made us think about what we might want to major in. We looked at the decision from different perspectives of our lives, like religion, and race. I personally didn’t see the major I wanted differently, no matter what perspective I was in. This workshop also had a few quotes.
